I kinda LOVE the remaster, it's made me go wow many times already. I've never seen the film look so good before and for me, there is still plenty of life in the image. It doesn't look artificial, apart from perhaps that Arnie red shirt briefing scene shot at the start. But even then, not NEARLY as bad as I was expecting.

Now perhaps blown up on a 100inch screen, it might not look as hot, but on my 42inch full 1080p Panasonic plasma, I'm LOVING it (and I've been inspecting it from about 3ft away). After staring at comparison shots, I honestly don't think any detail is being lost, the grain is originally hiding whatever detail was there anyway. So when they remove the grain, they are removing the detail behind the grain that wasn't even visible in the first place. So yes, it does lack the detail of a modern film (and perhaps a proper restoration from the original negative), but I'm very much liking the lack of overly distracting film grain. And I'm not against film grain by any means btw, just that Predator was always intensely grainy.

Anyway, each to their own, but I'm a very happy bunny having one of my favourite films looking better than I ever thought it could
I got my copy today as well to see what was the fuss was all about, the screenshots are dreadful but i have to agree that in motion it doesn't look anywhere near as bad as the screenshots. Althrough that breifing scene with Carl Weathers looks the worst part and Carl comes off looking like a wax puppet, but after that the films picture improves a heck of a lot. Strange that!

Also, all the stuff about the cables when they are decending from the copper, BS, they're there all fine and dandy, as someone else said, he must have a mis-calabritied tv set, looks great on a 46"

I don't understand rants like that. The minority who read that already think likewise, so he is preaching to the converted. The majority will not so won't know (or care) any different.

Conversely, why even buy blurays if you're happy with crap like this? How could you possibly care about anything to do with AV quality?

Just watched the first 5 minutes, can see that weird waxy effect on that one shot of Arnie, after that he doesn't look too bad. With Carl Weathers in that scene it looks like some strange shimmering effect has been applied to his face, most odd.

I almost remember a time when enjoying films was all about the plot and the acting, instead of how good the transfer looked and sounded.

I watched the first 10 minutes and it still had more detail in the picture than the new disc.

It's the only part of the film were it's distractingly bad, even arnie doesn't look to bad in that scene, but poor Carl!, but it's fine after that. It has always been said, even on dvd that the first 30mins of the film is really terrible picture wise.

I put it on again to check it out, and it still made me go wow (in a good way ). I honestly feel like I shouldn't like it considering all the feedback, but seeing it in motion is far better with it looking almost brand new at times. Apart from the briefing scene which is a little too heavy handed with DNR, I think the rest looks pretty solid. And I still believe that there is very, very little detail lost in this version due to it being hidden under the grain anyway. Now with the grain removed, it doesn't appear to have super fine HD detail anymore but this IMO was 95% just grain anyway. It's certainly dividing people, that's for sure...

Fine film grain tends to bring detail out though, not hide it.

Do you mean the inherent fine size of film grain makes a HD picture appear more detailed or that the grain actually somehow enhances the detail picked up through the camera lens when filming? Ironically, they probably could have added digital film grain back into the Predator transfer, although less intensely than it was originally and that might have pleased a lot of folk
