Came on to post about this. Just watched my copy that arrived today from Tesco.com and was slightly disappointed to see 1.78:1. Can't remember what the AR was in the cinema when I saw it (2D), but it feels like it ought to be 2.35

And yet I was 'cock-a-hoop' to see it is 1.78:1

The Blu-ray is Camerons preferred framing.

A few comments from him here. Including his views on the drawbacks of 3D and how "On Blu-ray, the movie is brighter, bolder and more vivid than they experienced in theatres."

I think the fuller frame 1.78:1 definitely shows off High Def better.

it just fills that screen so much more and jumps out. So much to see

Mind you if we all had 2.35 screens then we would be angry

Watched this tonight and absolutely loved it. I don't really understand the criticism to be honest - the story was nothing particularly original, but everything else about it was superb.

It pained me to turn it off 30 mins from the end to watch the last 15 mins of the Liverpool game (but it was worth it).

A very good 8.5/10 from both me and my girlf. Will watch it again in a few weeks - there's so much going on I'm thinking it'll hold up to repeated viewings.

I'll always dig 2.35 no matter what. I don't give a toss if my screen's being filled or not.

It'll incorporate 5-6mins of extra footage, but that's as far as "uncut" goes. The release we've got now is the director's cut, really.

I have not looked myself, but I assume that you mean the Steelbook editions (sealed) are going for over £50? Was that selling on the lenticular art cards, and T-shirts with it?

Just watched it through today. Well, I am prepared to take back a few comments and say that it was much better the second time around. Maybe because I had lowered my expectations somewhat from seeing it initially at the cinema.

PQ was astounding. Everything really popped. The blues and greens and the iridescent lighting was alive. In my previous statements, I indicated that the CG was nothing special really.

I was wrong.

The CG is the best I have ever seen! The motion capture really adding to the reality of the animation.

Yes, definately the disk I will pull to play if I have visitors and they want to see some HD material.

No, it didn't come with a t-shirt. Steelbook packaging, BD/DVD, lenticular cards and Pandora field guide.

We watched 2/3rds of it last night on the cheapo HMV Limit BD player in the living room. Took the disc out and switched the machine off. Just popped it back in to watch the rest of the flick and a resume play menu appeared. Not a machine generated menu, one similar in theme to the main Avatar one.

Wonderful disc

Watched it this afternoon and thought it was a fantastic disc - the best-looking BD I've seen. Took a little while to load (and also to stop/return to menu), but played fine in my LG.

Should have pre-ordered 2 of these steelbooks!

Yeah it's a bit of a slow loader in my player too, but what a picture - this is a reference quality disc. The film is even better, imo, second time around, I just relaxed and felt so immersed in the astounding world that's been created, and like people have said the vivid environments and lighting are much more noticeable without the darkening effect of the polarising 3D lenses.

I know Cameron has oft had fairly obvious storylines and clunky dialogue in his movies, but everything else he does just goes into producing some of the most entertaining films I've ever seen. Avatar is no exception, at times it is just stunning.

I was wondering, when i was in the Odeon In central London, they had a scene where jake was a little kid and he was in the living room with his parents watching the first probe pictures back from Pandora, it's nowhere on the Blu-ray!

No more drugs for that man!

Didn't happen, it's all in your imagination or you're confusing it with another movie. It's not even in the script, or the scriptment.
