No worries, I am old and tired too. I had to type it about 3 times before it made sense to me. I don't expect to get it new, but imagine there'll be a fair amount of second hand ones knocking about then. To be perfectly honest, I'll be just as happy waiting until xmas 2012 and watching it on telly. It just doesnt grab me as a must-see.

Only watched the first 10 mins but so far the picture and sound are absolutely stunning - reference quality.

Glad I paid £25 for the steelbook - I'd guess the picture is even better than the standard Blu

It was 2.35:1 at the regular cinema and 1.78:1 for the Imax version.

Yep, I'm so pleased common sense prevailed and the domestic/home (whatever you want to call it) version is 1.85:1. Still, JC has always embraced the idea that flicks have a much longer life than their theatrical presentations.

I think you get more top/bottom, but its the definitive way of seeing it, I'd have thought. (sod 3D its a gimmick )

The blu ray is 1.78:1 or 16:9. 1.85:1 is wider and has black borders top and bottom. TV's with overscan will zoom in a little bit which is why the borders are not seen (and lose a small bit at the sides). I have no over scan on my setup so I get them.

This review shows the difference between the 2.35:1 and 1.78:1 off Avatar. The DVD/BD is getting extra at the top and bottom. Notice the onscreen computer graphics are cut off.

November will be when you'll see a special edition packed with extras.

In this instance I'm okay about losing a bit information. I'd be very surprised if JC didn't oversee the transfer (it probably has been reported all over t'interweb that he has but I can't be arsed to check it out).

He is very hands on when it comes to stuff like this, IIRC the P&S 'open matte' transfers of T2, The Abyss and True Lies had bits of tinkering on them. I'm sure he added some camera movement (at least one tilt) to The Abyss

God, I sound like a fanboy!

The news was he changed his mind about the ratio and preferred the 1.78:1.

In that link.

It's now £65 on play.com marketplace - I assume that means if my now 'missing' order doesn't turn up, play will not be able to replace it. And with play you have to allow 21 days for missing order enquiries. Not great service is it.
