Do you think if I asked them they'd show The Magnificent Ambersons with all the missing bits put back in? And von Stroheim's original cut of Greed? And the missing sex scene from Von Richthofen and Brown? They've apparently got access to all these things that don't ******* exist.

I doubt that very much,tv showings have a wonderful habit of showing alternate films though.

Great thread

So let me just see if I'm getting this straight: you're sitting there watching Total Recall, a film you know intimately (including the existence of pre-release versions) and yet still choose to 'enjoy' via low-bitrate digisat, and it suddenly becomes clear that someone at ITV2 has broken into The Lost Vaults of Carolco to bring their late-night viewers an edit of the film that never left the studio (as a broadcast master, no less). Do you:

(a) Grab a VHS tape / start your Sky+ recording / press the button on your HDD recorder doohickey / call someone else who can do one of the above

or

(b) Think "Hey, no problem. If I just loosely describe it to everyone else who might be interested, they'll be perfectly satisfied with that, right?"

Nah.

(c) Perhaps even mention it on a DVD-based Forums you're a member of, incase anyone else might be interested.

Perhaps he didn't realise an 'uncut' version was MIA? It's one of my faves, but I had no idea all additional footage had been lost

Well you still have stated no reason at all for why you did not record it in any way, or even come close to even answering any questions asked at all.

Well done, you are making yourself out to be a total and utter bull teller.

and again WHY DID YOU NOT RECORD IT?
I guess that no one recorded it because they maybe watching some other channel at the time or some other reason.

I did not record it simple really...

I have the R1 edition so why would I watch or record something that may be shown in it's entirety but not knowing it would be until after the event ? sounds very to me.

Someone may have recorded it somewhere who knows!! maybe they have not got round to watching it or 1,000 other reasons why.

Here is a question for you all.

Why didn't you tape the full alternate version when shown on ITV2 ?

33 posts by a deluded individual, all about an imaginary viewing of a film. Is that a forum record?

Because, as has been stated **** knows how many times, no one in the known universe, except for you, knew it was on.

Would an extended cut make sense of the scene where, Arnie, after fighting with his wife, runs away to a hotel where at that point no one knows where he is. A man phones his room & has a video case thingy that explains the plot to Arnie & us. How comes he turns up at that point, & how did he know where Arnie was??? I know logic takes a holiday in this film, but this scene really takes the biscuit.

And...let's build a dome on Mars out of non bullet proof glass, & give everyone guns, & have it that after the glass has been shot through you have to press a big red button to make it airtight again. I like this film, but you could write a thick book about all the nonsense in it.

Sorry to interrupt the argument but can I ask a hopefully non-contentious question about this release (which doesn't appear to be covered in the previous 4 pages) - is this version remastered or just a rerelease of the version I've already got on the shelf? Just wondering if it'll be worth a double dip?

And Alan - completely agree with you about the bit where he somehow manages to get to a hotel to further the plot, but I guess you can explain away anything with the "his brain has been tampered with" excuse!

He was probably tracking Arnie by the bug in his skull. Just like Richter was.
