Shouldn't the U.S version be due by December.

Lasseter is a huge Miyazaki fan, I'd be shocked if he allowed that to happen.

I think the US release is due around Dec 10th or thereabouts, practically simultaneous with the r2j release.

Any links for that - can't find anything on the usual sources?

Looks like the US release is put back to March; but apparently there is a French release coming out (bizzarely) on the 23rd December.

French release of UP in December as well I see. I'll just wait for whatever Optimum does with Ponyo (DVD/BD around summer 2010 I'd guess) and then wait for it to hit £6.99 at HMV. And to think, I have all those £25 Ghibli R2J DVDs on my shelf...

Eh? I paid 40 - 50 quid a pop for my Ghibli R2J DVDs

Well, I probably undervalued them a bit (just looking back at my old order documents), this is going back 8-9 years, but I was paying £28-£33 each - I used to buy them in bulk from a place called Amotokyo and then re-ship them to a small group of people on here.

Grr! I've been buying from CDJapan and Amazon.jp and the odd one from YesAsia... they cost on average 40 - 50 quid a pop for me, taking into account nominal shipping fees but not customs, which I have had to pay on quite a few of them

It's not fair

I got most from Amazon and somehow managed to escape customs - I remember the day the postie rang the bell and handed me a package with both Totoro and Kiki, complete with a Mount Unpleasant sticker, which she blithely ignored, bless her. £50 for the two. Those were the days

Amo were always good for customs (undervalued them on request), and we got free EMS shipping because of the bulk orders. They've not been around for a long time now though.

They just couldn't compete after a while (small company). Amazon Japan became more competitive with bigger discounts and offers, Yesasia also became popular with free shipping. I know around the time Howls came out on DVD it was a better deal to go through Yesasia and just have everyone buy separately.

CDJapan used to have a shipping option on their website so you could have an item shipped from a private address with a reduced value on the customs sticker.

It cost a little extra but it used to save you big bucks!

I've been lucky to pick up the majority of my R2JP collection from 2nd hand stores around Akihabara for between 1500 and 3500 yen - fortunately 2nd hand in Japan is practically the same as new. Biggest bargain was a sealed copy of Howl 4-disc for about 1800 yen which was about 7.50 pound at the time!

The MadMan Austrailian BD has been delayed from the 29th December. Probably to match the US date. Now do I wait or get the R3 DVD?

Anyone rich enough to be tempted by the Japanese BD will be pleased to know that it will play on Region B players!

There are Ponyo publicity boards appearing in the cinemas. There was one outside the screen where I saw Where The Wild Things Are. Mind you doesn't mean they will definitely show it.
