There's actually two cuts to the film, both of which are present in the uncut (Cert 18 ) old UK Cbs Fox VHS,the 1998 Entertainment in Video full-frame release is the same as the original CBS/FOX release version.

At 17.14 the sight of girl's corpse landing on bed and a 4 seconds cut to a pan across bloody bed at 17.32 to the widescreen 2001 Entertainment in Video release.

Watched this last week and have to say absolutely loved the trasnfer...the film looked so sharp and crisp and the details was amazing.

Top job.

Now can't wait for the sequels to make their way on bluray.

I just hope I can resist buying the Region B as it's one of my favourite films...

Surely the box set will be following soon enough?

My dream BD release would be an Elm street 1-7 box set with excellent picture quality and lossless audio, and parts 1 and 5 uncut.

Well I hope the sequels are going to be released soon as I loved the 2 and 3 especially.

I love the ending of the first film with the girls singing the freddie song whilst there's a shot of them skipping and then Freddie grabbing the mother from inside the house. Sets it up perfectly for the sequel.

The Region B version is out in a few weeks. I will get it along with Freddy v Jason. I am a huge fan but the old trusty R1 NOES boxset will do for the other films.

Mine has shipped. I'm hoping that the featured original mono track is actually that; the "original" 1.0 track on the Infinifilm disc is a downmix of the incomplete 5.1 remix (a few missing synth stabs here and there).

Without the heavy DNR.

Also, the colour timing is a bit different. Overall, it's much improved.

It looks stunning to me, I won't be getting unless uncut, though. I've only ever seen the old VHS version, so would notice the cuts.

Have you got both? There's no way of comparing screenshots to material played back on an actual machine and player, as there are too many variables associated to make a scientific comparison.

I own the Canadian and will take a punt on the US disc too, for merely the extras alone, but I can't see the transfer being much different.

I have looked at several online comparisions. Not an entirely accurate method to discern discrepancies between transfers, true...

Here's a rough 'n ready, but useful comparison (looks like the author has imported the Canadian caps from another site):

Nightmare On Elm Street Blu Ray Review/Comparison

I don't see a great deal of difference between them in that link (thanks for it btw). I'd be interested to hear your opinions on it once you see it Robert. I've cancelled mine for now, as I notice I have most (all?) of the extras on the DVD anyway.

Can't remember a massive problem with DNR on the Canadian, but will have a rewatch over the holiday weekend I think. Seemed to look grainy enough to me. Indeed, in those shots, it looks as grainy as the US edition to me.

I love these films... but can we ever see the rest getting a BD release?

Looks like a nice transfer alright.

Problem for me is I could only justify buying this if I had no intention of owning the rest on Blu, and that's not the case.

It's only a matter of time surely before a box set is out.
