The Amazing Race 12 *SPOILERS*

It's been a long wait, but it's back once again! It's been said that they're doing something different with non-elimination legs this time (one exec said they're being dropped), but Phil said there were 8 eliminations in 11 legs, so perhaps not. (Or maybe they're dropping the occasional "...may be eliminated" and will tell them which legs are non-elimination?)

Episode 1: the right couple were eliminated. Hooray for karma! Although the donkey roadblock would have been a good opportunity for one team to help out another and get some goodwill for later legs (but I'm glad Ari and Staella were left in the mud).

What sort of a spelling is "Vyxsin", anyway?

The other couple whose donkey wouldn't go had me in stitches.

AR seems to have gone as far down the route as they can in finding egos, fools, caricatures and stereotypes. SO far, I see no one likeable at all. Was just a shame only one team got eliminated - would have liked to see both the teams that couldn't deal with the donkeys boucned.

The goths hack me off - everything they say is designed to be "look at me! I'm different!". They're very tiresome.

Worst bit in the show was the pit stop though. All over the world, they show people in traditional dress, but in Ireland, you get a fat, greasy haired bloke who looked like he'd just been pulled out of a pub.

I look forward to them being in the US some time and the guy at the pitstop wearing a cowboy hat, and eating 3 burgers.

I thik this is going to be the last series they'll make as the ratings have plummeted - blame for the slide was the disastrous Family Edition from a couple of years ago.

I do like TAR though. Although I do travel for holidays, I normally go to the same places and this show gives me a decent heads up of places around the world I should look out for. (Example, I went to Macau in August and the first thing we went searching for was the Macau Tower where they did the Sky Walk in one of the previous series ).

I do seem to have a vague recollection that they may not make any more AR - that the host is bored of it.

The family edition was horrendous but I'd certainly like to know what that lovely religious family is up to nowadays ( )

The show used to show you a lot more of the countries they went to, this latest episode I don't think even showed you isnde the little church, let alone tell you about it.

But it beats the Family edition where one task was to climb a giant chair.

Episode 12 just completed.

Would like Rachel and TK to win but this episode was one of those where things just went wrong! All over the place for both them and **** and Vyxen.

Don't think I would have gone for a perm tattoo even for this race.

They seem to have spent a lot more time this season dealing with the machinations of getting flights and what's happening in the airport. It's normally 15-20 minutes before they actually make it to the destination for the tasks. This has been the weakest season so far, barring the family edition.

Great result in terms of who got knocked out. FInal 3 is as I would have liked it.

Best quote from our ignorant American friends (paraphrased):

"Make your way to Tai-pie in Taiwan (Taipei in Taiwan)"

"I don't know much about Taiwan, but I do know that Thai food is great"

The only problem with the final three is that I'd like any of them to win -- there's a lot less dramatic tension now that (the hilarious) Nate and Jen are out. I always enjoyed watching Jen get in a huff because somebody else was doing okay in the race (especially when she complained about another team not letting them have their turn at first place!). Everything was everybody else's fault; if I was Nate I'd have a hard time not arguing with her, and I'm fairly mellow. She even seems to have a go at members of the public. (I'll miss the comedy, though.)

It's a hard call, but I'd like Nick & Don to win. They're a great pair: a gangly, awkward teenager who gets lost easily and an old man who manages way more than I'd expect. And I like that Nick carries Don's bag everywhere.

But they're all worthy: TK & Rachel are wonderfully unflappable (hence Jen's jealous comment that they're not even trying... so should presumably be made to wait a bit while Nate & Jen skip ahead?), and it's lovely to see how Ron & Chris have bonded now.

What channel shows this over here? We caught some in Australia while we were over there. An episode involving firing a flaming arrow into a big dish to set fire to it...

Yup, of the final three they would have been who I would have wanted to win too.

I have just started TAR Asia S2 and although it took a couple of episodes to get into it's really picked up now and looks like being a great alternative.

Pleased they won. The other two pairs in the final three were very lucky to make it as far as they did IMO, and one pair of them seemed to have tasks weighted in their favour toward the end.
