Yes I have already bought many blu-ray discs which started arriving last week and I have not bought a player yet. Was looking at getting a US PS3 but as this will take some time to arrive (possibly have my brother bring this back for me at Xmas), then I might be stopping off at the shops locally on Friday for a PS3 to use in the mean time.

I was away last weekend so did not have time to worry about not having a player, but itching to have one for this weekend possibly. I think only a few of my discs will be region coded so I can start enjoying these this weekend!!!

I have my brother in-law coming over this weekend too so would be a great chance to show this technology off.

It can't be denied, if warner go Blu exclusive it will be something of a blow for HD-DVD.

HD-DVD has far more to loose if Warner goes the other way than blu has.

As I said earlier I can easily believe that Warner are about to dump one of the formats. Which it will be is anybody's guess and anything else is just speculation until Warner makes a statement on it (might be today, probably will be by January).

TBH while I have my preference for which I would like to see (I expect most people do) I really don't care which format they choose. All I want to see is an end to this stupid war and to have just one format.

Another non-story like the one that emerged months ago about Warner going HD-DVD exclusive, only this time the rabid blu-ray fanboys have come out of the woodwork...

So you don't think that Warner will dump one of the formats in the next few months?

With sub $200 HD DVD players from a quality brand hitting just in time for the Christmas buying season, I don't think any one is going to be announcing withdrawing from the format any time soon.

There's a point where studios are going to want to cut their losses, but I don't think it's going to be at the time when the hardware hits prices affordable to the mainstream.

I think we've all got more important things to worry about, but while we're here on an HD forum we may as well debate the issue.

As mentioned by Grandmaster, the sub $200 players have just come out. No decisions are going to be made until at least January.

I'm still wondering if people will actually look at the software available to make their decision or buy a cheap player. I'd never buy a cheap player due to the poor quality of them, but appreciate not everbody wants quality. The PS3 is $299 now too so there's also that. I guess we're all just better off waiting until January.

The only way Warner can potentially end this War is to go Blu.

I am however happy to look at a dual-format player next year if things have not changed.

As has been said, Warner won't make any decisions until the all-important 4th quarter has played out. They're on to a good thing by supporting both formats (currently the only big studio to do so), and they'll rake in the moolah if they can get Matrix out on Blu before Xmas.

But I can see how producing a minimum of three titles (DVD, Blu, HD DVD) for every new release is a bit of an arse-ache, and from the sounds of it they're seriously weighing up which way to go.

Bottom line: if Warners swing to red, this war will become even more protracted; if they swing to Blu, it's all over bar the shouting.

Hey we have two willies so get twice as much pleasure. But I prefer the red williy to my right. It works with everything and isn't racist, unlike my blu willy who seems to be picky if it has something inserted of a certain race/studio from a certain region.

You mean SMALLER - 50GB as compared to the 51GB of HD DVD.

Or do you refer to unfinalised standards like 200GB BluRay disks - which will need an expensive format specific drive as they media will not be used for movies any time soon?

And I doubt it will be the PC format of choice - every Toshiba laptop in 2008 (that's likely to be over 10 million) ships with an HD DVD writer.
