some more info.

Quote:
Ronald D. Moore, writer and executive producer for Battlestar Galactica, spoke briefly at Creation Entertainment’s Grand Slam Scifi Summit convention last weekend (March 12, 2006).

Q: [Regarding the season finale which had just aired]: What made them leap ahead a whole year with the story line? Why didn’t they tell the story of the settlement of the planet over the course of next season?

Moore said that he’d toyed with the idea and it kind of came up “organically” that they should settle a planet. He was intrigued with the idea of “the wrong man is going to win” the election, and if they’d settled and the Cylons had arrived right away it would be

Moore said that they weren’t interested in showing it without the Cylons; that to dwell on the settlement without the cylons being there just wouldn’t be as interesting, but that if they had shown up right away it wouldn’t have been good either.

They thought the leap ahead was an interesting way to change up the relationships and “**** off the audience.”

Q: What’s the plan for revealing more Cylons? How far out are they planning to reveal them? [the fan commented on how great the Lucy Lawless reveal was].

He said that he has a few more “reveals” – ideas about who he’s going to reveal next and a couple that he’s leaving as wild cards. He said, “we want the show to last for a while and if we blow them all now, you can’t go back and do it again.” He said there is some planning, but there is room for improvising as they go along, too. He said that Lucy Lawless was always going to be a Cylon, but they wrote it so that there “wasn’t even a nod in that direction.” He said that even he would get to the end of that episode in the writing and forget that she was a cylon. They are bringing Lucy Lawless back for a 10-episode story arc next season.

Q: Regarding plans for next season and how the process is coming along.

He said they’ll start shooting again in April and that he’d finished writing drafts for the first two episodes and they have stories and scripts planned out for the first eight episodes. He said they’re going to “play a long-running Cylon B-story.” They’re going to a Cylon base star and it will be from the Cylon point of view and deal with fall-out from first couple of episodes from the season.

Q: Will they reveal Starbuck’s importance to the Cylons in Season 3?

Moore confirmed that Starbuck has a very specific role to play in the mythology of the show that the Cylons are aware of and that there are archetypical roles in the universe and each of them is expected to carry out their role in the larger mythology. The role of Starbuck has a specific end point that will have to do with the end of the series.

Q: [follow up] Does it have anything to do with her missing ovaries?

He quipped that Starbuck’s missing ovaries were “under Leoban’s pillow.” Then he noted that her ovaries are actually going to come up next season. But they will not be tied specifically to the mythological part.

Q: What about Sharon’s baby?

She’ll also be dealt with in Season 3. She’s being taken care of by “Maya” (the woman in Laura’s tent) – in same white crib as in that earlier scene with Baltar and Six. One of the production team called him and said “what would you think if we used the white crib for the baby in that sequence?” They talked about what it would mean and decided to do it [he didn’t say what it meant!].

Q: Will there be a time when the Cylons have more than just the 12 versions that there are?

He said it’s something he’s thought about and played with and he thinks it’s a qualified yes. He said he has an idea where the Cylons would be going with the next model and it’s tied into where the series is going toward the end, so probably yes.

Q: Can you talk about the role of religion in the story?

It’s one of the fundamental building blocks of the show. When he was writing the miniseries he started playing around with the idea of Number Six saying “God is Love” and was intrigued by the idea that a robot, or android, or artificial life could come to a notion of God on its own. He thought that it would be interesting to juxtapose the polytheistic notions of the colonies against the monotheism of the Cylons. He said that “Religion is one of the fundamentals of the human experience” – it’s one of the things that’s driven people apart and put them together throughout human history – “it’s been a key idea in what makes us human.” He said it felt right to deal with the Cylons in their quest to find out what is a person, to play with that idea of “What’s it mean to be a ‘real boy’?”[Pinocchio reference]. It involved ideas of the soul, why are we here, what’s it all about.

Q: [After commenting on Richard Hatch having done a great job on the show]: Do you have any plans to bring any of the other actors back?

He said they’ve thought about it and asked the audience if there was anyone else they’d like to see. He said it would hinge on what the role was, because they don’t just want such an appearance to be a cameo. He felt that Zarek was a great character and that’s what got Richard Hatch to be willing to do it. And whether he was willing to do it or not, they thought Zarek was a good character for the series. If they do bring other actors from the original back, they’d want to do it for roles that are really meaningful and would add to the action, not just as a stunt.

DB was offered a part in the last episode of season 1 - when the story was in quite a different form to the finished version - but turned it down. The commentary (on the R1 boxset or downloadable from the scifi website) for 'Kobol's Last Gleaming 2' goes into quite a lot of detail about it.

Two more episode titles have been revealed. I'll spoiler them as the 3rd episode title could be construed as giving away what happens in general terms:

Oh well that's just cheating!

EDIT: Actually, on a more serious note, surely it's a bit of a flaw in the system that an edit to the first post like that doesn't bump the thread back up to the top again? When I went hunting for this thread it was on the 3rd page, so I naturally assumed nothing had been posted recently...

Is this a joke?

A spin-off series already? The story has popped up everywhere, so looks like it might be official.

Jesus, did you read any of the comments under the story? You'd have thought they'd have gotten over it by now!

EDIT: I Especially like the guy who accuses everyone that disagrees with him of being an Universal 'stealth marketer' and then goes on to state that the only reason that the show gets good press is because Universal bribes them! What a loony.

Nothing to do with BSG per se but Jamie Bamber was one of the contestants on 'Showbiz Poker' on Challenge TV last night. He was second out after Barry Grant from Brookside!

Sadly no hexagonal cards to be seen.

For the record, Dexter Fletcher was the winner.
