Single channel to dual channel memory problem

I've been running my PC with a single stick of 512Mb ram.

I've just bought another stick of the same memory in order to run in dual channel mode.

I've got an XP boot menu that has two installations of XP to choose between.

The problem is with the dual channel enabled I don't get the boot menu. The screen goes blank after the bios screen and very quickly I get the bios screen again and then the XP safe mode recovery screen saying that XP was unable to start and I can try again or start in safe mode. If I try a normal start it just goes through the whole process again.

I've run memtest86+ for three hours with no errors. Surely XP should be able to at least give me the menu if the memory configuration has changed.

Has anyone any ideas?

It runs fine in single channel mde.

Thanks

Dave

A change in memory won't affect XP's ability to start. Something funny is up....

*ponders*

I take it if you remove the RAM everything works fine again?

Everything is fine if I put both of the sticks in single channel mode. The memory test runs fine in both single and dual memory mode.

The only odd thing is that memtest86+ reports the memory as DDR374 not DDR400.

OK, I've given up. I've removed one stick and I'm now advertising for a matched pair of 512Mb sticks
