Saw Nirvana twice.

Great first time pre Nevermind at Leeds Poly.

Very dull the 2nd just as Teen Spirit broke at the Mancester Academy.

Baby Bird, playing at the Splash Club, Kings Cross, 13th Dec. 1997. About 100 people in the audience, (including Eddie Izzard!) perfect sound, amazing happy music...pure heaven.

I'll raise you two!

I saw them at the Duchess in Leeds (it was a pub)
That Poly gig you went to.
Reading Festival 91
Then Bradford University I think also in 1991. Again just after teen spirit broke but they has sold gig out by the time it did break and it was the same for me they were dull as dishwater but I did meet Kurt and danced with his arm around me to the support band Shonen Knife.

Garbage at Wolverhampton in 98
The civic hall is a very intimate venue and at the time Version 2.0 had just beem released so they played a lot of the older rockier stuff and some great b-sides. Was with a lot of friends and it was just fantastic

Moby at Newcastle students union in 2000
This was about 2 months before he became huge. Again, aa tiny venue - half an hour in and there was sweat dripping from the roof. The sound was fantastic. Incredibly they performer "thousand" . By the end everyone was knackered, but as "Felling so Real" started up the entire room found a new lease of life - simply incredible.

Saw Nirvana twice.
Edinburgh Calton Studios on the Never mind tour then two days later playing unplugged at the Southern Bar in Edinburgh.
Saw the Smiths at Coasters in Edinburgh during their tour for "Heaven knows..."

Maybe Jane's Addiction at Edinburgh Network 1990. They thought it was a good gig too 'cos they pulled out the steel drums for "Jane Says" during the encore, a song they didn't play at every gig during those days. I got some amazing photos and Perry Farrell even posed for me.

I went to that gig because no-one would go with me to Nirvana which was round about the same time. The next year I wandered into Ripping Records a couple of weeks before the gig and was completely flummoxed that it was sold out. I didn't understand it.

So that's my claim to fame: NOT seeing Nirvana twice.

Sid Owen (Ricky Butcher from Eastenders)

Power in the Park - Southampton Common - 2002

He threw his pants into the crowd afterwards and I caught them! Wear them every day, never washed

I've got another one for you. I went to see the Sisters of Mercy do a secret gig in a pub in Leeds on Tuesday. All the tickets were free as well. The last I saw them was in front of 40,000 people so to see them in a pub was epic.

Sorry I didn't post it here but I didn't want publicise it to ensure I got in. I did email the other two Leeds based guys that are regular music forum browsers and consequently had a drink with GregB.

The Sisters themselves were amazing and the set list was better than i'd hoped. No Floorshow but they did play Alice, Anaconda and On the wire. Awesome gig!

Can you remember anymore tracks they did?

I've never seen them, but I was well into them in my teens(I've just re-bought Floodland and F&L&A on CD), I saw Nephilim twice (Middlesborough & Hull town halls respectivley) and they were just out of this world... though no Dawn Razor tracks

By the time I was going to gigs, Sisters were doing Vision Thing tracks and I wasn't really interested.

Interestingly enough, I used to know Kenny Giles who recorded their early singles on the promenade in Bridlington.. (he gets second mention on the thankyou list on the liner notes of Floodland) or at least I knew his son and have had a **** about in his studio before they moved to Huddersfield

this was a long time ago though

No probs mate, when I went to see Pixies at Scarborough in '93 I wouldn't have said jack **** to anyone if there was a chance I wouldn't have got in so fair dos

I've narrowed down that set list to what would have been amazing to me even without the rest... I've seen some recent pics of Eldrich... he's always been top entertainment value especially in interviews.... what a dude!!

*hums the twelve string intro to First & Last & Always* du du duh du du du d d duh etc - ahhh what a cool track

I've seen a couple of christmas cards and the like he sent to Ken Giles, he's
an incredibly witty bloke... I guess I owe to myself to check out Vision Thing after all this time.... I dunno... I just liked the "gothyness" of the earlier stuff but what the hey its all awesome!

Manic Street Preachers (Cardiff 2004)
Green Day (MK Bowl 2005)
