Upstairs Downstairs

I love this 1970's drama, following the lives of the aristocratic Bellamy family who live in Belgravia from about 1900 to the 1930's. Plenty of soapy goings-on, social comment and great period production values. What's particularly interesting about the series is the comparison it strikes between the Bellamys and the "below stairs" servants, who gradually develop into a family unit in their own right.

I've always been disappointed by the DVD treatment that UpDown has received so far, but it looks like that the series is finally getting the red carpet treatment it deserves courtesy of Network.

Series one comes out on 19th September, with cleaned-up prints of the episodes and laden with extras:

* Audio commentaries for at least three episodes.

* Photo gallery.

* Script PDFs.

* The rarely seen black-and-white episodes will be included, including an alternate version of the first episode "On Trial".

* The episodes will be in their intended order, which was not the original broadcast order.

* Exclusive documentary "The Story of UPSTAIRS DOWNSTAIRS". This documentary will be in five parts, and cover the making of one series in each DVD release. Part one will include new interviews with writers John Hawkesworth, Fay Weldon, Alfred Shaughnessy, Terence Brady and Charlotte Bingham, as well as actors Jean Marsh (Rose, as well as the creator of the series), Simon Williams (James), Christopher Beeny (Edward), Nicola Pagett (Elizabeth), George Innes (Alfred) and Evin Crowley (Emily). Archive material featuring David Langton (Richard), Patsy Smart (Roberts) and director Joan Kemp-Welch will also be included.

God bless Network!!

John Hawkesworth died a while ago sadly so I highly doubt there will be new interviews with him!

Got it for Christmas. Still in the "to watch" pile.
