By jettisoning the concept of apes being bred to replace dogs & cats wiped out by a plague (in Conquest...), it raises the question of just how apes - being an endangered species and in such small numbers - could possibly take over a city, let alone an entire planet...

Haven't seen it yet, but was just making that observation based on practical numbers of apes in the present day. I'm sure they've shoehorned some convenient explanation in there!

I like the original POTA most still. It's so iconic. I also got a rather like the fourth instalment "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" but this 7th entry in the POTA saga is fantastic.

Caesar is undoubtedly the star of the show. Andy Serkis deserves (but won't get) a best actor nod for his performance here. I really hope we get a sequel!

Interestingly Caesar was the name of the ape who led the revolt in "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" and it's sequel "Battle for".

POSSIBLE SPOILERS:

It's completely illogical though. The drug isn't airborne and therefore couldn't kill people in the way depicted at the end. This is based on the two examples of how people got effected.

It's a much better explanation than the original POTA, which just says a "space virus" killed all cats and dogs. Humans then used apes as pets. It makes no effort to explain how the apes become more intelligent or manage to wipe out most of humanity.
