Is PS3 Blu-Ray REGION SPECIFIC?

Because, if it isn't, I think I'll order the American briefcase set of Blade Runner.

I've heard people saying both "yes" and "no". Does anyone have a definitive answer? Will the American Blade Runner Blu-Ray play on my PS3? Will the American Blade Runner SD edition play on my PS3?

It varies from disc to disc with the lovely Fox (gits) being the most prolific at using the region coding.
There is a handy list here of what is and isn''t region locked and it looks like Blade Runner is region free.

Technically the PS3 is region locked - but there are many region free releases to counter this; it usually takes a quick bit of research before buying anything to make sure you're compatible.

So far Warner haven't region-coded any of their releases, so barring a change in policy, the US Blade Runner BD should play fine on your UK PS3 (I assume it's a Uk model?)

Same applies for SD - a UK PS3 will only play region 2 & region free DVDs.

Do you have a US or UK PS3?

US will play Region A blu-ray and Region 1 dvd.
UK will play Region B blu-ray and region 2 dvd.

But Blade Runner 'should' be ok as Warner are releasing it and they don't region code blu-ray films.

OP, you're asking two different questions!

The PS3 is region locked. As Marcus says if you have a UK PS3 you're limited to Region B Blu-rays.

However some films are region free and Blade Runner is probably going to be region free so when it comes out find out if it's region free and then you can import it from the US to play in your UK PS3 (if that's what you meant)

Warner have said they will never use region coding on their High-Def releases on either format, so you're safe to order Blade Runner from the States. I think that's probably the one to go for as it contains the Theatrical, Workprint, Director's Cut and the Final Cut all together. I think the European release on both HD formats, annoyingly, only has The Final Cut on it.

Excellent. Thanks.

Does that apply for SD DVD on PS3 as well?

Thank you very much. That's good to know.

It is what I meant. Though I'd also be interested to know if the SD DVD of Blade Runner will be region coded. I suspect it will since there's no reason to believe otherwise.

That's fantastic. I think I know what I'm going to do now

SD-DVD's are pretty much all region encoded so if you get a US PS3 then you'll be looking for region 1, UK PS3 region 2.

Unless anyone can correct me?

Yes, I do believe you're right.

The only reason I was asking was because I was hoping for a long shot that I might be able to get that briefcase set from the States. Oh well, eh?

Yes that's why I'll add a US Region A PS3 to my Region B one, then I'll not have to worry about region coding on DVD's or BD's.

I'll get mine via my brother who travels to the US on business and has a good friend there so I can get the free movies making the price of the PS3 almost free.
