oooo nice. I was thinking of picking up a few Arnie movies on Blu, including Predator. Shall hold off now. There isn't particularly anything wrong with the current Blu though is there? I had read complaints that it was too grainy, but it's bloody well supposed to be.

I doubt it, it stinks of cashing in to coincide with the release of the new Predator film, a typical Special Edition release.
Bung in a few extras and a new cover and the suckers will buy it again

(and it's never going to look like Avatar, as has been mentioned innumerable times the grainy look is to do with whatever film stock was prevalent in the mid 80s)

I might just get the current one then after all. Does it have the bonus features from the 2-disc DVD a few years back? I wouldn't be surprised at all if they end up DNR-ing the hell out of the new one.

Nope, it's barebones, which is why I hung on to the SE DVD.

I expect it will either be the same encode, or a new DVNR-ed to hell one... either way not worth an upgrade. And the extras will just be bumpf for the new movie.

I hope I am wrong though!

I doubt Fox will recycle their old MPEG2 encode, so even the same transfer could quite possibly look better with just a generous new AVC encode.

I held off buying the first disc, so this'll do nicely, provided no wizard has performed excess wizardry of the transfer. Otherwise it's to the bargain-bins on a hunt for the original.

I hope that doesn't translate to "We've DNR'd the **** out of this." Apart from some dirt and print damage near the start, I think the existing Predator Blu-Ray is pretty good. I'll wait for some reviews before picking up the new edition.

Will definitely be interested in seeing what gets put on this. The extras on the SE DVD, while fairly short, are very entertaining.

So it's basically everything from the DVD plus some tat promoting the new movie.

I've got the 2-disc DVD and I've got (what I consider to be) a very faithful rendition of the movie already on Blu. Definitely waiting to see what this 'all new digital restoration' can bring to the party - and I hope it's not a ****-load of DNR.

Considering how much effort Fox are allegedly putting into the new Alien set, maybe this is actually something to get excited about...
