TV commentaries - for the blind?

only recently spotted this

was watching Friends on E4 last Sunday and it's on Star Trek (Sci-Fi) now.

they have a commentary on the lines of :-

"Kirk and Dr McCoy walk from the lift" or

" Joey comes into the room and talks to Monica"

is this a new thing? If so, how much does the position pay? Seems like a piece of **** job to me
I love my dead gay son
