Does anyone remember Bob Rafelson's second film with Jack Nicholson (after "Five Easy Pieces"), "The King of Marvin Gardens"? It and another great Nicholson film someone has already mentioned here, "The Last Detail", strike me as perfect examples of the kind of challenging, often downbeat but fascinating films that seemed to be coming out of the US almost every week in those days and which are hard to imagine today. Haven't seen either of them since they came out (are they available on DVD?) but they've stayed in my mind just as much as some of the more famous films of the period. Nicholson has a five-minute straight-to-camera monologue at the beginning of "Marvin Gardens" which I remember as an amazing piece of acting.

The Godfather is my all time favourite film.
The 70's was a great time for cinema.
