New branding would explain the restocking issue, seems like an unnecessary waste of time & money to me mind, are the Ghibli collectors really that hardcore?

Are there any other film collections with linked sleeves/release numbers like this in the optimum catalogue? Could check to see if they're going OOS at the usual places as well.

The two new releases are pretty much identical in terms of packaging to the previous two, so despite the rebrand there'll be no need for collectors to update.

I see they're numbering them in release order this time - is that different to when they did the DVD releases? What number was Ponyo (my copy is the US one)?

I watched the two new releases last week - glorious! Whisper is particularly lovely - I'd also forgotten how funny it is.

My only niggle is the minor one that when watching Arrietty in Japanese you still get the English titles and credits. The English dub is OK but the accents are distracting and totally out of place.

Ponyo is number 17. There is no rhyme or reason to the numbering as apparently they rereleased Ponyo with a different number as 17 was in reference to the "DVD releases" and the new numbering is related to the Blu Rays:

Essentially, ignore the numbering...

Interesting thread; I see that the next releases are supposed to be Howl's Moving Castle (already out in Japan and looking fantastic) and Tales from Earthsea (my least favourite Ghibli ---- probably buy it anyway ) - this summer.

Howl looks and sounds fantastic on the Japanese version I have, definitely worth a purchase. Probably worth waiting on tales from earth sea, it'll no doubt get discounted.

Zavvi's Mega Monday has a lot of Ghibli Double Plays on offer for £10.95 with the Arrietty: Deluxe Collector's Edition £11.45, also saw the Ocean Waves DVD £7.95 with is one of the only DVD's I don't have.

The Laputa Double Play is in the offer too but its hidden in the DVD area rather than Blu-Ray.

Just been reading about Daisy Ridley doing a dub for Only Yesterday, its due out in US (I guess) on 5th July from Universal Pictures/GKIDS, so does that mean it won't match all the other Ghibli Blu-Rays and when if the UK getting it? Google is coming up with nothing...

It's in UK cinemas today from StudioCanal, so it would make sense they'll finally release it on Blu-ray this year. The article linked at the bottom of this thread says it's coming to UK Blu-ray in August.

That does look beautiful, really captures a Ghibli film - even though we don't use the PS3 much for gaming that may be a possibility

I don't know why but i found Only Yesterday a bit dull and left me a cold. I always considered it one of the lesser movies from studio Ghibli

I think it's one of their best (of the realist ones)

I was lucky to catch it on the big screen in San Diego a few months back and it was a great experience to see it that way, despite the only screening I could get to using the dub. Actually, the dub is pretty good - Ridley nails it; Patel is good but I found his strong London accent to be out of place.

Here is a link to the BD (August 16th):

Only Yesterday [Doubleplay] [Blu-ray]
