Christmas Telly 2018 - Recommendations and general discussion

Normally you'd have to take a punt on Christmas telly and this thread would have missed the boat, but with catch-up and so fourth, it isn't the case anymore.

So did we miss anything? I can recommend

The Queen and I - Sky One

Was a fan of the book and Sue Townsend in general so was interested to see what they did with this. They managed a really charming portrayal of the Queen living on a council estate. Fair few changes from the book, they seemed to pretend Prince Philip didn't exist (I guess in case he died and they had to can it) and a fair few references to modern politics. Well worth watching.

Didn't really see much else, Zog was good for the kids.

The BBC said the most watched thing was the Queens Speech, blaming streaming services, etc. However I have to admit I struggled to find anything decent to watch.

Click and Collect was harmless enough froth for Xmas TV
ABC murders is one of the better Poirot stories, but absolutely ruined by the BBC based on Part 1.
Not Going Out Live was alright, not a fan of the "reboot" but it was pretty amusing

BROS:after the screaming stops.

Find it on the iplayer NOW!!!! 111

It was like Spinal Tap crossed with Shakespeare.

I only managed the first 10 minutes; absolute rubbish. Goes from a slap across the face to a song that covers growing up into wolverine in only a few minutes.

Been looking forward to it but not watched it yet. Click & Collect was fun even if it did trigger Whamageddon for me. Upstart Crow was alright and I’ve been enjoying the Only Connect specials.

Shocking really.
I've not watched anything on "Normal" TV at all over Christmas.
It's been all Netflix, Amazon and YouTube.

I briefly looked at the TV listings and saw nothing of interest.
Was either Christmas editions of shows I've never watched or old films.

I really enjoyed The ABC Murders, Upstart Crow, and Click and Collect.

Really enjoyed the Bros documentary also but not sure if that counts....

Enjoyed the Michael Palin SE where he visited and was escorted around North Korea. ABC Murders were ok but would have been better if they kept to the standard 2hr slot.

Well, personally I'm glad that C5 are showing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang twice this Christmas, since my Sky box messed up the first time and didn't record the bit after the news.

Saw the Michael Palin documentary earlier in the year. It’s great and nice to actually see someone go over there to try to understand the culture. He really is fantastic.

I've dubbed it the Ghost of Christmas Past, as the Beebs big draws were Watership Down & Torvill & Dean and of course good 'ol Who.

Meanwhile 5 had a 2 hour Tommy Cooper special on Chistmas Day (it was rubbish I thought, far too long).

Also had new Morecambe and Wise to watch (the two recovered form 1968 eps, born 71 so know I hadn't seen them, too dated alas) and GOLD had Jonathan Ross showing their american TV appearances - that was good I thought, although does do the regular sin these days, showing you something you haven't seen, and then pulling away from it whilst playing to show reactions of those that are watching. Luckily it didn't ruin it like some do but WTF!
