Can i connect a usb to hdmi

Hi All

When abroad in hotels, i normally have a usb with some video files on. Most of the ports on hotel tvs are hdmi and do not have a usb port. Is it possible to buy a cable which will plug inot the tv via hdmi and the other end of the cable will allow me to plug in a usb stick and enjoy films?

If so, what the name of this cable pls?

Many thanks
Adam

No you can't plug a USB stick into some sort of adaptor and then plug it straight into a TV.

At best you can connect a tablet/phone with your movie files on and then cast to the TV or buy a micro usb to hdmi converter if your tablet/phone support it, but this also requires a separate power source for the usb to hdmi unit.

Get a cheap android box that supports usb media and plug that into the hdmi of the TV

Some TVs do have USB ports and have seen them in quite a few hotel TVs on my travels but these have always ended up corrupting the USB stick.

So cast from a tablet or phone or via a micro USB to HDMI connection or cheap android box those are your options.

By Android box I mean a Smart TV box like a Roku 2 or Roku 3 but any smart TV box on Amazon would be worth a look at. Check the specs that you can play usb media it all depends on how much you are willing to pay

One of the best established branded media players is the WDTV, but no need to pay that amount these days, as much cheaper models are available, eg:
You could also consider:
  • Amazon Fire TV Stick - turns any TV into a 'smart' TV.
  • or a Google Chromecast - play videos or YouTube from your phone (or laptop), to 'cast' to the TV. Cheap, small & light, works v.well.

If you just want to play files from a USB stick wouldn't you be better off with something like

https://www.amazon.co.uk/AGPTEK-Play...s=media+player

(Just realised that was posted above)
