Thought the episode was generally just dull and I struggled to sit through it. I really don't care about the characters anymore. Like other I will watch to see how they deal with Rick leaving but after that I am out.

At first I thought they were going to lop the boy's arm off, like they did with Hershel's leg.

I'm not sure if I'll give up on it yet. I'm very stubborn about seeing shows out, although this is trying my patience!

That said, when was it really good? I guess S1+2? But then I didn't like Hershel's farm that much at first either. The prison was good but then the Governor was crap.

I for one am looking forward to the rest of this season, even after, and perhaps especially after Rick leaves - without going into spoiler territory obviously. This might sound like a very disloyal thing to say. But this season marks a new beginning for the series with a new show runner behind the scenes, after Scott Gimple’s questionable decisions in recent seasons...

I think it is important to understand that Rick’s character in the comics does take more of a backseat role from where we are now in the TV series, so if there ever was a ‘right time’ for him to leave it would probably be now. Also the Rick we see in the TV series is somewhat different in the comics. Rick in the comics isn’t as invincible. After the Governor cuts Rick’s hand off in the comics, Carl is forced to grow up quickly to look after him, becoming the complete badass that he never really became in the TV series.

I can understand why Andrew Lincoln chose this time to leave. Scott Gimple’s idiotic decision to get rid of Carl robbed Rick’s character of his strongest motivation to fight for a future for his family.

I can even understand why many fans became disillusioned with the TV incarnation of The Walking Dead. It certainly doesn’t do a good job of communicating the passage of time and by the way that is actually intentional. The events of season 6 to the end of season 8 take place in a few weeks (around three months total), while there is an 18 month time jump at the beginning of season 9 with perhaps an even longer time jump coming up. This kind of makes sense because it will bring the characters more into line with how much the actors themselves have aged.

Somebody made a comment about a more adult version of Little House on the Prairie. Horses kind of replaced cars more quickly in the comics. As you can imagine the passage of time isn’t that conducive with the maintenance of vehicles as parts degrade and car batteries deplete over time etc.

All Out War last season could have been done better I will admit. They had a lot of good stuff to work with from the comics and managed to do a passable job with it. Not going into spoiler territory, honest, but this season and possibly next also has a lot to work with that I am really looking forward to seeing. The new show runner seems to have a better understanding of what Walking Dead fans want so I hope she can bring new life to the show and even make fans who feel disillusioned with TWD reinvested again.

Episode 2 was another good episode and is setting things up very well I think. Walking Dead is also back to not shying away from being gruesome when required. I have faith in this entire season, not just the first 5 episodes.

Yep, the make up on Aaron's arm wound was excellent.

Rick, it's 'hold the fort' not 'hold down the fort'.

Interesting at the end of last night's episode in the "coming next" it said "Rick Grimes final 2 episodes" so I guess that means he's gone before the mid season break then.

This season has been really good so far. Loads of great character moments that maybe should have been covered before and yes it does make you wonder why not... The new show runner knows her stuff and next week’s trailer almost looks epic enough to be THE Walking Dead finale itself. But I know there is lots of great stuff to come in this season after the next episode.

Does anyone know what has happened to the look of the show? It’s a bit distracting, like the difference between film and video in the 70s or 80s when different scenes of a show were shot in different media.
It made the sets look a little fake to me and makes the scene less immersive than when it looked more film like.

I'm a bit 'meh' so far. Glad we've moved on from All Out War but it's very slow still IMO. Lots of talking - I'm all for a bit of character development, etc but I want ACTION! Even making me think back fondly to The Governor! There was a tank back then!

Of course I'll be sticking with it but I am watching with one eye while distracted by something else.

Well said. That's can't be IT. It can't.

Think I'm out in a couple of episode, or at least binge watching the remainder.

Oh, and the sound. I need subtitles for Daryl's mumbling!

I’m still not convinced Rick will die and maybe that is wishful thinking. Made some speculation back in post #125 some of which is spoilery for later this season. But as for what I think will happen at the end of the next episode:

Here is an episode synopsis for episode 6 from a TV Guide. Warning, spoilers for episode 5...
