Marvel's The Punisher (Netflix)

First trailer up for the new Netflix show. Trailer looks decent but I hope it's better than the last few Netflix/Marvel offerings.

Excellent; he was the best thing about Daredevil S2.

I just finished Defenders, hoping this would be the show where Netflix would pick up the pace and quality from the previous offerings, but was a massive disappointment...they took the worst bits of the previous shows (Electra, Iron Fist) and made them the centre of the show. Electra in particular...good God what were they thinking

Yes I am wondering has their been a change behind the scenes as the quality has dropped dramatically. I hope they get it back again for The Punisher.

Yep, it's a never-ending cycle. But this isn't the thread for that discussion.

After the Vegas shooting, they cancelled their NY Comic Con panel & delayed the release date (which was unofficially October 13th).

Watched the first 3 eps so far. So much better than Defenders, Cage and Iron Fist.

Six episodes in, and I'm finding it all a bit dreary sadly.

A marvel comic adaptation called The Punisher, and so far there's been very little punishment.

Hopefully it'll pick up in the second half.

Finished this today - thanks to a week off sick,

Very pleasantly suprised it wasn't anywhere near as "shooty" as I feared - I worried it might be a 13 episode gun battle!

The politics was a bit dodgy in places for a leftie liberal like me - not sure why they decided to write in a gun-control subplot - particularly when it was triggered by an incident not involving guns. I began to think it was written by Frank Miller at one point - all those pinko communists wanting to take our guns away from us!

But overall I really enjoyed it - probably the best since Jessica Jones.

And as an extra bonus - no Hand

Wow, this show really lit the members here on fire didn't it? I'm almost through it now and although I feel it would've benefited greatly from a 10ep season rather than 13eps, it's easily the best thing Marvel have done since Daredevil s2/Jessica Jones s1 imo. Good, not great.

The lack of any real discussion on here though, could we be seeing the fallout of Marvel's intensely ****** output so far this year with Iron Fist, Defenders and Inhumans?

Good, not great would also be my verdict.

I've only watched Daredevil S1 and S2. Gave up on the other Marvel Netflix.

Enjoyed it, but like Soprano, I'd go with good, not great. It's also the only Marvel series I've finished aside from Daredevil 1 & 2.

Like all the Netflix Marvels it's too long with far too much filler in there (8-10 episodes would have been enough) & as a fan of the comics, there's something about Jon Bernthal's Punisher I don't like. He comes across as, for want of a better word, a bit 'thick' a lot of the time.

The action stuff was great, but there wasn't enough of it. You don't read Punisher comics to hear about politics, feelings & PTSD, you just want to see Frank shoot the **** out of people every issue.

Still, the stuff with Micro & his family was nicely handled (even though it felt a little too easily wrapped up at the end) & I loved how his lair looked exactly like one of those bits of pre-production artwork you see for movies.

Season 2 wishlist: More action, less moping please.

What i disliked the most was the change in origin. That was pointless.DD S2 already gave his origin which was closer to the comics. Then this series starts with him giving up being the Punisher as everyone involved (he assumed) with the murder of the family were dead. Just carry on being the Punisher. It was almost a reboot. It even took him 10 episodes to get the skull back!

Also we have enough terrorist/middle east/homeland security plots going on everywhere. Its a bit boring.

Despite being a huge Batman fan and at one point having pretty much all Batman appearances for a 30 year of more period, The Punisher is probably the character that got me "into" comics of a more mature nature when the UK reprints began probably sometime in the 90s (comic more the size of 2000ad and on paper)

It was pretty much like nothing id read before and to an impressionistic teenager raised on Arnie movies, it was fantastic

So I was looking forward to the series

For me, I agree with Soprano and with Aprout

Too long / too stretched, id have welcomed 13 episodes if things had not felt so drawn out and stretched. There was a bit of LoTR syndrome in that it seemed to have multiple (unneeded) endings - and as the end came just seemed to drag out the generation of one of The Punishers most iconic enemies

They could easily have upped the pace, cut out the filler, had the season resolve by around episode 6 or 7 and introduce Jigsaw for the second half of the season
