House of Cards - Netflix

Just seen a trailer for this on uk Netflix, it's exclusive and looks like it could be a good 'un.

Kevin Spacey starring, starts in Feb. I remember the original fondly....Francis Urquhart... "I couldn't possibly comment"

Yeah - might sign up for Netflix for this. David Fincher is producing and he has directed the first couple of episodes.

Think it is going to be the anti-West Wing.

Great news is that all the episodes are going up at once!! So no waiting 13 weeks to see everything.

I see this up now. Planning to watch it tonight.

I also notice that according to wikipedia that episode 2 and 3 are directed by James Foley (Glengarry Glen Ross) and episode 5 and 6 are directed by Joel Schumacher!!

Great Quote from Spacey too "Netflix's decision to air all the episodes at once has been called a gamble, but Spacey insists the decision could help combat piracy. 'Give the consumer what they want, when they want it, in the form they want it in, and they will buy it at a reasonable price and not steal it', he told Philly.com. 'So I actually think this way of putting it out there, giving the consumer the option will take a huge bite out of piracy.'

So true at least Kevin Spacey is with the times!

I really liked the first episode, plenty of interesting characters, great cinematography for a TV show (it oozes Fincher's great eye for colour, whip pans and tracking shots) and music that creates this ambiguous mood of uncertainty between people.

It'll be interesting to see how popular this thread will be, given that it's only available to those who subscribe to Netflix (at the moment at least) and we're not being drip-fed a weekly episode for us to dissect and discuss.

Could I also suggest that seeing as readers here will watch this at a different pace than everyone else, that if we're discussing spoilers, we are mindful of the episodes we're discussing.

Gonna binge on the next couple of episodes now.

So if the whole series has been put up at once what's to stop someone using the free 1 month trial and watching the entire season over the course of the month?

Nothing, I assume. But I suppose they are hoping to tempt people to check out the service who wouldn't otherwise, even with a free trial option. Bet there are a lot of people who had never heard of Netflix before Spacey started doing the promo rounds for this.

I have already had a trial when it first launched, but I am going to sign up for a paid month to watch this and Spiral Series 3 in the month (Spiral S4 is on BBC4 soon)

Yep, thats the gamble Netflix are taking but with over 32 million subscribers they must be doing something right.

Only regular HD for me. I've got the bandwidth (100Mb) but I'm on xbox.

Interesting article about Netflix here and it's decisions about House of Cards. Pretty interesting reading, if maybe a bit conspiracy theory.
