I tweeted Unblock US asking about supporting the Shield they tweeted back saying that they only got their hands on it and are looking in to it. I'll try the Unotelly method

Been setting mine up...

Got all my films and tv shows looking nice in kodi. Also got my satellite box streaming nicely through it.

Next, need to look into what apps are worth sideloading and what emulators are around.

Kodi runs great on it
As good if not better than my i3 nuc with 8gb ram !

I'm trying to experiment with Roms and emulation
What's the best emulator ?
Is there one emulator for everything or does each platform need its own ?

Oh and regards streaming my games on PC to the shield

is there a list of games which just launch from GeForce experience rather than having to go via Steam ?

Best emulators are .emu ones in the store, there is also retroarch and few others, Moonlight works better than the default gamestream and supports launching Steam and you can max out your settings (Gamestream app will degrade your settings no matter what connection quality is like by default), Nvidia has a list of gamestream compatible titles on it's website but normally anything that can be optimised will run fine.

On the strength of this thread I've ordered one last night from Amazon, should come tomorrow. Looks like I ordered at the right time as its gone up to £149 now.

I'm hoping it will replace my Acer Revo R3610 which I've had for years but is getting a bit creaky.

It came today, very nice.

Seem to be having a problem with live TV in Kodi though. It displays 16:9 shows in 4:3 for some reason.

Apart from that it seems pretty good.

May seem a daft question, but do you have the sound muted on your PC? IIRC I had to switch off my speakers to get sound working (and not having it playing on the main PC too!) as muting also muted the streaming. Not tried it a while so might be mis-remembering...

Marshmallow is due 'shortly'

http://www.androidcentral.com/marshm...ndroid-tv-soon

There should also be a fix for passthrough in Kodi soon. There's already a beta version that people are seeing good results with.

How are you watching live TV in kodi, out of interest? Do you have some kind of networked tv-tuner.. if so, how do you rate the experience of it?

Cheers!

I've got a Wetek Openelec box (http://openelec.tv/openelec-box) and use this to stream to Kodi using TVheadend. It does work very well, really good quality for HD streams.

I have a vu+ duo satellite box that also streams over my network.

Kodi has a plugin that allows me to view it in my lounge.

Doubt it. Mine is literally just video streaming from my satellite box. So if I put on a channel I don't have access too, I won't get any video, on either my sat box or nvidia shield.

I'm sure there are probably dodgy plugins for kodi that stream channels.

Yes, TVheadend will work with Oscam (in fact so will the vu+ duo) for Sky descrambling.

I've never used it though - there's plenty on BBC, ITV etc for me.

Before I ask Amazon for exchange / refund ...........

does anyone elses Shield "whistle / hum / buzz" ever so gently, when plugged in ?

Last couple nights could not figure out what the strange very low "bee / wasp" noise was, but systematically unplugging everything shows it to be the Shield

I think you will get some fan noise with all of them because of how powerful they are.

Nah, it's not a fan noise.
It happens when unit is off but plugged in.

Does seem like it's a known fault
Refund authorised with Amazon. Can't fault them

Sounds like it could be coil whine. Another one might be better or if it's common another one might be just as bad.

I've had mine since late November I don't have any buzzing noises coming out of mine. Spent most of yesterday watching stuff on Kodi & Netflix so it was on for a good 8 hours no noise issues here.
