No fan noise whatsoever.

Still hates my powerline adapters, it works but latency issues I've not seen on anything else connected to them, running ethernet upstairs to the router works, so just got to fix the cable up and use that. Plex works fine and is very snappy, I've not played with Kodi too much on it but it seems to accept the gamepad controls (there is a touchpad on the controller but it's disabled on the Shield TV due to some daft Android TV restriction) You have to purchase the remote separately, I do not have one. Both controller and remote have Google Now functions and general voice search. (they pair via Wifi Direct and have headphone/microphone jacks on both so you can listen without disturbing anybody late at night or if you want to broadcast to Twitch)

Still no iPlayer, it was on the devices before the firmware upgrade and the 2.0 update nukes it, it should automatically reappear at some point once they sort out whatever issues they have. TV Player works on it and is in the store, there is another app called Pluto TV that seems to work well with live channels (web based streams but a lot content) Nothing else available officially but I know there is some unofficial ports of iplayer and other apps over at XDA.

You can sideload anything you want but your want a mouse/keyboard/touchpad if it's not a TV optimised app and Sideload Launcher installed or you won't get a icon to click. A load of new apps recently appeared in the store like the UFC app and other streaming content.

It's basically a giant fancy Googlecast receiver so anything that you use a Chromecast for will cast to it from a phone or tablet.

Ah, ok, thanks. Sounds good, still not decided but I can't think of a better box and nothing been announced. I either need to get one in the next few days or wait until the next time someone is coming to visit.

I know Netflix is, but is Amazon Prime on it (as a normal app)?

I presume you've tested another device on the homeplug connected to the Shield, but have you tried a switch between the Shield and the homeplug to see if that does it better? If it is the homeplug the Shield doesn't like that might be a better communicator betwixt them?

The shield works fine for media use with the homeplugs but won't stream games either from Geforce Now or just off my PC properly, my 5Ghz WiFi is not strong enough to be stable downstairs but upstairs that was also fine. Amazon Instant seeing the light of day officially on Android TV in Europe right now is zero due to Amazon throwing their toys out the pram with Google and the Chromecast, you could sideload the regular android app or cast from another device if it lets you. (I've seen videos with the US version of the App on the homescreen so who knows)

Ah, ok. It does seem quite a gamble by Amazon. Their Prime TV service isn't all that, there's not that much decent on it and it's more a 'nice to have' than a must have IMO.

Don't suppose you know of a decent site that details what you can/can't do with this, without being too techy? xda-dev forum is a mess to navigate for a newbie!

I'm in exactly the same situation. My Revo has ran like a dream until recently but now has some random issues & now after upgrading to Windows 10, it's suddenly developed really bad crushed blacks.

Anyways, I took that as a sign to get something new & shiny & this looks very tasty. My only issue is I still will require a PC to do the tv-show media downloading...

2.1 update rolling out to correct HDMI Black Levels and HDMI connectivity issues.

Shield Hub should have a update as well but mine has not got that yet.

I've only played stuff off of my NAS, there does seem to be a issue with PLEX loosing the server sometimes which is on the Shield side of things hopefully they push a update to the app to fix that. I'm mostly using mine for gaming rather than media.

Is that playing through the ple x app or just a media player app using dlna?

What do you have plex on? I have if on my synology NAS and I had problems with the plex iPad app struggling to find it for a while. It's been fine since recent updates though.

With kodi I just use smb and point it directly to the paths on my nas.

I use Plex on my PC, all my media is on my NAS and Plex has a link to that, media plays fine with Kodi as well, just select the share and away you go.

iPlayer, BBC News and BBC Sport Apps are now available by default on the launcher (no install required - but as default apps you can't remove them either)

I've been hanging off buying this for a while...

But they're now chucking in the remote which may push me over the edge.

Maybe?

That will no doubt make more sense to you than me.

Ah no thanks anyway. I thought being Android you could perhaps install the server itself on there, as it seems to have enough grunt otherwise. I'm basically looking for the cheapest way to set-up a server for my files - a NAS is too expensive really, and I'm looking for the lowest power output solution, so I can leave it on 24/7. Might have to be a second hand Mac Mini or something.
