Nvidia Shield TV.

Finally the most powerful Android based media/console has been released in Europe. Thought I'd start this thread for owners and interested punters with questions.

4K UHD TV & Video Streaming
Android TV with Google Cast
GeForce Now Cloud Gaming
Exclusive SHIELD Only Android Games
Stream GeForce GTX PC Games To Your TV

Processor: Tegra X1
CPU: Four ARM A57s, Four ARM A53s
GPU: Second-gen Maxwell, 256 CUDA cores
Memory: 3GB DDR3L
Storage: 16GB (plus 500GB HDD in Pro version)
Video Features: 4K at 60Hz (VP9, HVEC, h.264), 4K capture at 30fps (h.264/HEVC), other formats include MPEG2, MPEG4, Xvid, Dvix, WMV9, ASF, AVI, MKV, MOV, M2TS, MPEG-TS, h.263, VC-1, VP8
Audio: 5.1/7.1 passthrough over HDMI, 24-bit/192kHz audio over USB and HDMI. High resolution up-sample over USB. Formats supported include AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, MP3, WAV, AMR, OGG Vorbis, FLAC, PCM, WMA, WMA Pro and WMA-Lossless. Passthrough support for Dolby Digital Plus, DTS, DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD
Wireless: 802.11ac 2x2 MIMO 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1/BLE
Ports: Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI 2.0, two USB 3.0, MicroUSB, MicroSD, IR receiver

Also something I found out is, it supports Bluetooth remotes as well as Harmony remotes, so you may not need to fork out for the dedicated remote.

This box seems like the spiritual successor to my original xbox running xbmc.

I am planning to get this shortly. I know some forumites already have it.

I am also awaiting the launch of the new Amazon Fire Tv, to see what that can handle.

Very interested in this. But having just built a new htpc it's proving hard to justify. Still don't have a proper Netflix box though so......

Maybe when Kodi gets proper HD bitstream and refresh rate switching working.

I think if this was £100 or less I'd be a lot more interested. Maybe they could sell a version without that controller that I'd never use.

I'm also looking into the Amazon Fire Tv too for pure media playback features.

But this in the lounge running emulators would be amazing. Also streaming a pc to my lounge would be great too.

I was looking at getting SF5 for the pc instead of the PS4 so that I wouldn't have to buy another stick. But it only supports nvidia cards.

Here is a great video showing it running emulators.

My MX android tv box arrived the weekend, quadcore, cost £25 from gearbest. So how is this different? For the record I only want it for tv & movies, not games.

Shield TV Supports 4K Android Gaming with 2.0 update

SHIELD now supports 4K Ultra HD game rendering for crisper visuals. The following Android games are now enabled to render in 4K: Beach Buggy Racing, Bombsquad, Hardwood Solitaire IV, Riptide GP 2, Kosmik Revenge, Video Poker Duel, Leo's Fortune, Machinarium, Meltdown, Never Alone, Samurai II, and Sky Gamblers: Storm Raiders.
My Wi-Fi was wonky out of the box, but I had the same issue with the Nexus Player until the update was applied. (I've got mine connected to Ethernet via Homeplugs and Network Switch) Geforce Now works quite well but there was a little bit of pixellation here and there which might be the homeplugs but I've not had any issues with other content or services online or local including streaming games locally, but at least it's playable and nearly as good as Steam In-Home Streaming.

The Shield TV can support up to Dreamcast and Gamecube emulation although the latter is not quite there yet.

I really like the look of this to replace my Acer Revo R3700 running Kodi/Openelec.

I don't have a 4K TV, but the x265 support looks very useful, and having to side load and access Kodi through a settings menu makes me prefer this to the new to be released Amazon player.

Are all the main UK apps on the Play store? BBC, ITV, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Now TV, etc?

Dataloss, did you go for the one with the 500GB drive or without? How quiet is it?

No, just the normal one, I've got a 64GB Flash Drive to plug in there and when Android Marshmallow rolls around your be able to use whatever storage you want for system level stuff like Apps ect. I think the one with the 500GB drive is overpriced and heading for PS4/Xbone pricing.

No catch up apps available, iPlayer is missing but supposed to have been available at launch. (You could sideload a tablet version and use Sideload Launcher but then you need some sort of mouse control) There is a couple of Custom roms out there which give you Regular Android with the choice of the tablet interface or leanback launcher. The App landscape should change as Android TV rolls out to various devices. In America support is quite good but overhere we only had the Nexus Player and that had no traction.

I've got an original Amazon Fire TV which I mainly use for streaming from NAS drives, originally using SPMC and now Kodi, but i can't get Blink or BT Sports to work, so was wondering if they'd work on this? and would this be an improvement for streaming over the Fire TV

BT sports can work, but it's a bit of a pain. What issue do you have?

Can't find a way to log-in nor select watch live, even with a bluetooth keyboard connected.

If you have an android phone or tablet the Wukong Remote app allowed me to navigate, then login to the BT app. It has a 'mouse' function which is a bit clunky but does the job for me.

If you have a phone or tablet you can cast to the Nvidia Shield TV.

Avoids a lot of hassle.

It fantastic quality on the chromecast, so I can't see there being any issues.

Geforce Now really hates my TP Link 500mps Powerline adapters as I've no issues streaming games from Nvidia's Servers via direct ethernet or 5Ghz WiFi upstairs in the house so my choices are either extend the 5Ghz signal so it can reach the living room or just run several meters of cable directly off the router (Think option B is one to go for)

How are you getting on with it Dataloss?

I really fancy one, but have a few questions.....

Firstly, is it silent? Do you ever get fans kicking in?

Does it come with the remote or do you have to buy that separately?

With Kodi, how well does the remote work? I saw a video review on Youtube where the reviewer said it can act a little strange, but it was from three months or so ago so may have been resolved. It needs to be wife friendly! ()

Which UK TV apps are working fine on it? BBC, ITV, Ch4, etc? Is there a TV Player one (or similar) that streams terrestrial TV (just the normal BBC, ITV, BBC news, etc)?

Am I right in thinking it also works as a Chromecast so you can just cast stuff to it from your ipad or phone?

I'm sure there was more but I can't remember at the moment!
