The Walking Dead S5 - US Pace **SPOILERS**

Very early posting this, but the Comic Con trailer is here. Figured it's best to make a new thread rather than post it in the S4 one.

Seemingly quite a lot shown so don't watch if you don't want anything spoilt!

Looking decent.

Begins October 12th.

I wouldn't worry about comic spoilers. Having watched the trailer I have literally no idea what is going to happen and I'm up to date, it seems this season is 99.9% diverging from print version.

Great start already!

I can see complaints about one scene in particular.

Very solid start to the season. I could have done without the "Then", "Now" opening and closers. Everything that was shown was pretty much discussed in the episode.

Some moments of real tension and danger through-out. Indeed "that scene" in the hut was a pretty brave choice, though with Nicotero directing it always seems a little more raw than usual. A little bit "red shirt" on the trough line-up. It was pretty evident who was going to get offed first and that double Glenn tease rather obvious.

They could have used this episode as the conclusion of last season quite happily. It's very much "new leaf" now on Episode 2.

Make sure you watch to the *very* end of the episode for a crap Easter Egg

Looking forward to this now, I think it's on NowTV tonight (fox) but don't don't know if it'll be on demand too.

I've found this show to vary in quality so much I actually got bored with it but sweet baby jesus that is how you start a season. Fingers crossed it keeps it up.

Good enough opener, certainly much better than anything we had to endure last season. But as always with TWD, I fully expect them to blow the budget on the first, mid season finale and final episodes and then have everything in between set on a shoestring budget with them walking down the train tracks!

I found Carol ridiculous throughout though -

Ditto. 'Big' episodes like openers have never been the series' problem, it's maintaining it throughout. Anyone else feel like this should have been the series four finale, too? Now that whole season was just walking somewhere that ended up not playing a big part?

Yeah the whole "Then" and "Now" sequences seemed pointless unless it's something that's going to be revisited or have some of the characters making an appearance.

Cracking start to the season but I fully expect to be complaining by about Ep4 and thinking about dropping it again.

I think the "then" parts showed the thin line they can cross from "good" to " bad" and was linked to Rick wanting to "go back and kill them all" which is what the "Terminus" people did to their captures. Once they crossed over from killing to survive to killing for satisfaction there was no going back for them and the same could have happened to Rick.

Rick was pulled back from this by finding his daughter alive.

That was my take on it anyway.

Yep I had a problem with the hut part, if that's the part you are referring to NicolaUK - my prob is he basically goes out to die (if we talk real world here, other than OTT TWD heroics), he would have been better off saying if you kill the baby I'll kill you. As soon as he's lost the baby he's lost any bargaining chips and is good as dead (assuming he believes you'll go through with your threat). I think in real life you'd be better off risking that than going out with the zombies, as I suspect he would've used the baby as zombie bait to escape anyway.

Carol = Rambo

But yeah I enjoyed the episode, have always enjoyed Walking Dead when they are not stuck on the farm with the zombie of the week.

Well having only ever seen Seasons 1 and 2 previously i used October to play major catchup and managed Seasons 1 to 4 via NowTV finishing last night (yep done the lot in 2 weeks!) just in time for the Season 5 opener. WOW! What an Episode!

I watched the 9pm one on Fox (not the 10pm one) and have read it was slightly 'toned down' but certainly didn't seem like it at all.

But after now pretty much been living the series the past few weeks i am now back to an episode a week like everyone else. Not sure why it took me so long to actually watch the rest as it really is a good show. Glad it's been renewed for another year as well.

Caught up with the end of four and went straight into 5 - superb stuff as always, but I've never had a problem with any of the seasons tbh.

This is now, IMO, much, much better than the comics which I loved until the tedious 'ALL OUT WAR' run, which kind of stopped me in my tracks and I'm now probably 12 issues behind I'd guess.

That said, I will continue - hopefully Kirkman remembers what made the series good in the first place and gets back to it, but I do fear he's just a hack who got lucky and has run out of ideas

I'm assuming his involvement in (and therefore ability to ruin) the show is minimal and mitigated by those around him at the moment - hope he proves me wrong (by coming good with comic I mean, not by ruining the show).

It was an amazing episode but I do feel we've been here before and about to suffer 5 or 6 more mundane endlessly wondering about jobbies before the mid-season cliffhanger.

Just need Emily Kinney back now and everyone is happy.

Can't actually remember what was so special about the easter egg fella.

Liked it so much, I watched it again on the NowTv repeat. Hopefully optimistic about the season to come but prepared for slow, disappointing tedium too.

Anyone else really suspicious about scientist bod, maybe it's just my cynical nature, but if I were a smart, less than courageous man in an apocalyptic future I couldn't think of a better way of surviving than offering a cure as hope to potential protectors.

She has an album out.

Featuring the song she sang on the piano to Daryl back in season 4...

She has actually sang a few times in the show now.
