These are coming already connected to your amazon prime profile aren;t they? Is it going to be an issue selling one on as brand new? I take it you can unconnect them? I'm ordering one for my Dad who isn't on prime

Cheers, just a warning for folks wanting to sell them. Can't claim it new if you open and wipe it

I don't deny anything you just said.

Like I said earlier, I was tempted and even pre-ordered it, only cancelling after thinking my Playstation does pretty much the same thing. I'm sure it will be a great bit of kit for whoever buys it, anyway. It's certainly speedy!

You had a choice when ordering to select if you wanted it bound to your amazon account.

Yep it wasn't obvious though, you had to select the gift option.

Anyone know if this could be used with UnblockUS? Never used it before and wondered if it was easy

Can't see why not, I use Apple tv with UnblockUS, works fine and is easy to setup, just use the three step setup on their website.

Just had a quick google, seems like it works fine, but you need a valid Amazon.com account and a valid us payment method, so could be doable, but tricky

I would check their support page when I read it a little while ago no one seemed to have any success.

I think the answer is, it depends.

If you have a router in which you can change the DNS, that seems ok.

If you don't then you're a bit stuffed because you cannot change the DNS on the Fire itself.

So, for example, I have Apple TV and a BT router. I have to change the Apple DNS for Unblock US. I can't change the BT router.

So, I won't be going ahead with my order for the Fire.

I am waiting for Andorid TV but if the chromcast is anything to go by I have a feeling Google will lock down the DNS for that too but hopefully you will be able to hack it.

If it's anything like the Chromecast it doesn't even use the router DNS settings so even if you can change the DNS it's no good

Latest firmware has disabled root, so be aware when first setting up - it will try to auto-update without requesting.
www.aftvnews.com looks to be a pretty good resource for guides and links, etc.

Just a reminder that this comes out in 2 weeks. I pre-ordered again after cancelling. Still might cancel!

I'm only tempted because of what rusty said about selling it on and making a profit, to be honest!

And I do really like the sound of voice activation, but that's a 'nice to have' rather than a 'must have,' after all my PS4 has the Amazon service on it.

Plex doesn't work properly on this (and from what I've read, it's unlikely it will any time soon), so I'm not sure why you'd bother if you own a PS4/XboxOne.

It's more of an upgrade for a WDTV, except it doesn't do everything that can!

I'm pretty sure I'm going to cancel, although given their free return policy I might just set it up and have a play.

Mine is on its way, hopefully delivered sometime tomorrow.

Hopefully the firmware will be old enough to root and install XBMC.

I forgot to cancel, so mine's coming. Will be going back. I just don't see why I'd want it over Apple TV>
