Amazon Fire TV

I'm on a prime trial at the moment so have ordered, seems rude not to.

I've ordered, for now, being a Prime customer. But will wait to see on the Netflix region swapping.

That's the tricky part. Can you guarantee someone will want to take it off your hands for more than £50?

Amazon Fire TV

Guarantee is a strong word but there's a decent chance given the retail is £79

I'd be amazed if you couldn't shift a brand new, £80, well reviewed, high-speced piece of kit (which might even be OOS) for £30 below RRP.

I sold my WDTV last week for £15 less than I paid for it 14 months ago. And by all accounts, the Fire wipes the floor with the WDTV.

I've read a bit more about it, and it sounds like I don't need one as I already have a PS3 and PS4 which do all of those streaming things. The only advantage I could see is the voice activation to search for films/directors/actors which sounds good, but apparently only works with the Amazon movie store.

Pre-order cancelled.

I'm still debating on whether I should buy one of these and what it can offer over what I already have (360, Chromecast and a Now TV box).

I currently watch Amazon Prime Instant Video through my 360 but I need a Live sub in order use to do this (was going to cancel my live sub at the next renewal).

I think the thing I like most about the Fire TV is that it has an Ethernet port (which I prefer to use rather than Wi-Fi).

I'm hoping that Amazon release an android app that can stream Amazon Prime Instant Video on my android devices so I can "cast" it to the TV via Chromecast.

I'm debating this.
I already have an Acer Revo, Pi and NowTV streaming Plex. I honestly don't see where I'd use it.

Think I'll probably cancel mine. No native streaming from PC and no easy way to get multi region Netflix.

In other words, offers nothing over my Apple TV apart from not having to fallback to the TV above it for Amazon Prime.

And keeps the kids on the PS3 for mine craft.

For those procrastinating, Amazon are offering a 30 day Free returns policy on these.

So you can buy it, use it for a month and if you're not convinced, return it for free. If for whatever reason you don't want to sell it on for a profit.

No DLNA on these it seems which is hugely disappointing.

Trying to get your media streaming from your computer to it is going to be difficult. I understand you can use Plex but that's about it.

Why would you do anything else?

Surely the two options are run Plex or sideload XMBC, both of which would handle network shares fine.

Exactly. Even if they offered their own steaming interface, I'd want to use Plex / XBMC.

I wish people would stop using tech talk like network shares and sideloading!!!

I think I'm going to stick with Netflix, gaming and blu-rays on my PS3.

Did you google them to find out what they meant?

I've just never had much luck using Plex for some reason with streaming different types of files whereas TVersity has worked just about flawlessly for years. From a quick read about the Plex app isn't at all optimised for it either. Anyway, I would be delighted if it worked and would get one immediately so if anyone gets it working please report back!

Nope, couldn't be bothered! I'm sure none of my family or work colleagues do either, so it's not like I feel I'm missing out on hot topics of coversation at the moment.

All sounds a bit ***** to me, to be honest.

Only because you don't understand it or media streaming. Many people will want this as a cheap PLEX or XBMC box. Therefore the discussion is relevant.
