I have been looking to replace my two aging Popcorn Hours with something new so I can have stuff like netflix and local media content. I have pretty much given up and now looking at Plex for local playback and thinking the Fire might be the media streamer of choice as I am sure Amazon will push this seriously hard.

In fact thinking of getting rid of my cable TV sub and replacing it with streaming services. So want one that will have loads of content.

It looks good, getting a bit sick of using the Smart functions on my BR Player, not very good and slow and doesn't support all the apps I would need

The game controller looks interesting, hope it all launches in the UK soon

XBMC on Fire TV

Looks like they work out at around £100 delivered using someone like Borderlinx...

edit: Also people claiming in this thread that it supports CEC. It sounds pretty much perfect for my needs.

This was going to be a Day One purchase for me, but Xbox announcing Plex on the One means it might be a little pointless.

If this gets released in the UK is a definite buy for me as seems the only box outside the games systems which has both Netflix and Amazon Prime streaming. I could see why Amazon would not go on Apple TV but not why not on Roku.

I presume the UK version will get BBC, ITV, C4, C5 and Now TV instead of the US TV options which obviously won't work here.

Sony BluRay players have both Netflix and Amazon Prime - the latter is excruiatingly slow on my player though - so hopefully the Fire will be a bit more open than Chromecast and allow the use of US Unblock for Netflix, then I'll buy one.

My TV has Amazon Video, Netflix, etc. built-in in. All I care about is a nice, fast and quiet machine that will run XBMC. Basically what I really want is a Raspberry Pi with a bit more power.

got one, installed xbmc in about five minutes. plays all my content flawlessly - handles 1080p mkv high bitrate DTS files with no problems, unlike atv2 or android boxes.

shame i can't use the uk prime account to watch things yet, but tbh i bought it for xbmc.

pretty damn good for £65

How about the speed of the menu, does it browse well?

bought it from amazon.com, had it shipped to a friend in texas and then posted over here...
I did see somewhere in the UK selling them recently, but can't remember where. I know they were about £120 though.

I ended up buying a NUC for £100 (plus some ram and a hdd). It's perfect for booting straight into OpenELEC

Highly likey Christmas release in the UK

http://www.knowyourmobile.com/device...ening-december

Can't wait. Chromecast is too limited (can't handle bigger files through Plex), and my WDTV is a little clunky. I'm hoping this will do the lot.

Your better off getting a Minix X8 if you want an Android XBMC system. Firmware is likely to be a potential problem with XBMC on the Fire TV. Minix provide regular firmware updates specifically for XBMC. That is not going to be the case with Amazon and they could potentially even block XBMC with future updates.

Lack of Gigabit ethernet puts me off that.
