Amazon Fire TV
Announced today is Amazon's all in one streaming TV solution
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CX5P8FC/...rd_i=507846#TV
No UK release yet but this could be an Apple TV replacer in my household as it looks to support PLEX natively.
Love the Gary Busey advert

If I can install XBMC I'll have one. Those specs look like a big upgrade over my Raspberry Pi

Looks promising. Hopefully the UK version will have the full suite of catchup apps (is there anything out there that does?).
Sadly it looks like yet another device that ignores local storage. Seems to be the way these things are going.

Why do you need local storage if it has something like PLEX or XBMC installed?
Am I missing something? Surely you can just stream your local content?

Depends if you've got something running to stream from. Sometimes you just want to plug in a 3TB USB hard drive and play direct.

It's Android-based so if Sky end up supporting it with Sky Go it should have everything.
I'll probably end up picking one up for a Roku - Chromecast - Fire TV head to head.

I can't stream local content well - thick walls ruin wifi and my crappy wiring ruins the network speed with home plugs.

It has Plex (judging from the apps shown on the US Amazon site) which is the daddy at streaming .mkvs
If the uk version has apps for all the uk catch up TV services plus Sky Go and BT Sport then Amazon are onto a winner IMO.

Doesn't the Plex app need a server to stream the MKVs or can it play direct from a NAS?

I don't use one myself but you can run a server from a NAS.
My computer acts as my server, it's always on so I just stream from there
This may answer your question: https://plexapp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us...gacy-NAS-Guide

Hmm that's why Plex is no good for me. I just want to be able to play files direct from a network share. I'm sure someone will get XBMC running on it.

I'd be really surprised if it doesn't support everything the tablet-based Kindles do at launch.
