Blackadder is a sitcom, Monthy Python is a sketch show, and Friends most definitely isn't the best sitcom ever imo, it's not really much different to all the other big-name US sitcoms of the past: Cheers/Seinfeld/Frasier,etc. It's just brilliant compared to the usual mainstream dreck clogging up US airwaves these days. Any era in which shows like The Big Bang Theory & How I Met Your Mother become the "big" successes in terms of attaining both big ratings and fan respect has to be a pretty soulless time for comedy!

It's been a decent era for "fan" shows that don't exactly achieve stellar ratings though: Arrested Development, Community, Parks & Rec, Eastbound & Down, and quite a few more no doubt!

Is 20 million viewers now seen as a lot? I think they get a $50k bump per year, so they must be doing OK

There are differently some points in both series run where Frasier were producing better episodes than Friends. I'd say there was a 2-3 year stint in the middle where Frasier was better. but then they made a huge error in getting Miles and Daphne together, which killed some of the momentum it was having. So i would say overall Friends wins out, just

It was much better when Niles was just obsessed with her. The real low point for me was Daphne's mother.

Daphne's entire family really. Anthony LaPaglia was especially dire. I'm still not quite sure what accent he was trying to pull off.

Her entire family did it for me. And they were around far too long too

At least the family had the decency to leave Anthony LaPaglia was only in a few episodes whereas mother hung about for a whole series.

I know. That accent and his awful acting ruined it for me. Thinking about it though the other brothers were a bit amusing!

A quite brilliant 2 mins of ShAmy with the butter in 7e19. Great stuff!

Strangely after WW talked about "Projects" on TBBT, 2 days ago he announced "The Wil Wheaton Project"

That running gag with Sheldon was just brilliant.

Strong final episode. One of the best of the season. It's a real shame next season isn't the last so it can go out on a relative high.

It was a strong final episode if you compare it to the ones before it.

It's just nowhere near as funny any more.

That last episode was good and I hope is setting up something for a change at the start of the next season. Time will tell if this can get back to its prime or not.

My girlfriend has convinced herself that Sheldon now won't be in the next season. Can't see that happening personally.

Read somewhere yesterday that the writers have said it has 3 seasons to go. Or rather, that is what they are writing for.

It seems mad to give them that kind of security. If there's some kind of story to tell then great - it allows for depth, pacing etc, but this show is a one-trick pony. And a three season guarantee is just going to encourage the lazy filler episodes we've seen over the last three seasons.
