we find it quite amusing and very light entertainment but had no idea what to expect beforehand.

I'm definitely out now, I really wanted to like it but it was only the name that was making me watch every week in the hope that it got up to a watchable level.

Re: Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

I've just watched Ep3. It's decent enough and has potential to get better. Plus Skye is a babe. Schwing!

I thought I'd try again with the "excellent" episode 5. Switched off after 10 mins.

It's just a huge missed opportunity.

If looks are enough then fine, but I find she's more annoying than the two scientists at this point. That episode where she was being trained to disarm a man holding a gun to her face was really crap as well. Awful sign posting, leading to a groan-inducing scene at the end.

It's certainly not good by any stretch but five eps in and I'm still watching. I can't turn away for some reason. I think it won't change drastically at least until half way through. They probably completed 12 or 13 eps before it was renewed for a full season. So it's probably worth hanging on just in case they have started to take criticism on board.

I can't say I find any of the characters annoying. It's decent enough for what it is at the minute.

Then again I dont mind formulaic sci-fi bad guy of the week stuff, like Eureka and Warehouse 13.

Gave up on this after 2 episodes. Just way way too light with awful acting and I think the Marvel universe restricts it if anything. Reminded me of a really poor version of Alias for some reason.

I can't disagree more, only Agent Phil Coulson and Grant Ward are any good, even Melinda May would be fine if she didn't look drugged and had a big stick up her arse. (although it does look like she softening)

The rest are extremely annoying and are single handingly derailing the whole show.

I'll side with those who enjoy it. Episode 5 was easily the best episode yet.

I'm still watching/enjoying it as well, But it can't hold a candle to Arrow imho

The women in floral dress character was a typical "Whedon" villain which was bit of a letdown would be nice if they tried something new

Not for the first time, I find myself thinking that this show would be much improved if Vic Mackey were in it.

Better again this week, probably because the 2 irritating scientists were hardly in it. Not a patch on Arrow though.

If I was writing it - and there's very, very good reasons I'm not a writer - I wouldn't bother with the B-rate villians and the dull story arc, or the Heroes-like tracking down the latest superhero/villain.

I realise the budget won't allow for full-on superhero battles, but why not take inspiration from Marvels and just have glimpses of the big battles but concentrating on the ordinary people affected and how this junior dept of Shield have to get involved sorting out the aftermath?

Trying to think back how Buffy was when that started. I know it took me a handful of attempts to get through season one and ended up loving it

This needs to get away from the "villain of the week" thing ASAP. It never works. Look at Buffy, Smallville etc, shows like this work better with an overall arc.

That's what I was hoping this was going to be
Through some clever writing and good use of the camera they could really make it seem as if they where on the edge of a super hero vs super villain fight

If Marvel wasn't in the title, would have definitely given up by now. Call me an optimist but will keep watching and keep hoping it will improve.

Same here. They really need to start watching Arrow and learn from that. And not be afraid to use more characters from the comic. Interesting article here on "how to fix it":
