I think it was a badly worded request. I get these a lot

There are other videos on there, embedded from Vimeo. I suspect this is what they will want in all honesty.

I should've known. Thanks for the replies

I tried ManageWP some years ago, but found it more trouble (and expense) than it was worth. However, I've been running it for a few weeks now and it's much much better - I'd highly recommend to anyone with more than one website.

The biggest improvement is that it's now totally free for an unlimited number of sites for the basic set of features - update all themes and plugins centrally, view visitor stats, clear post revisions, scans for performance/vulnerabilities, and even a free monthly backup (alone, making it worth the effort).

It's a very user-friendly dashboard, and seems rock solid (no crashes, timeouts or errors so far). Recommended.

Thanks, perfect for what I need it for. I've tried many different 'tools' for central management of many sites and either due to expense or faffing it wasn't worth the effort to get them working properly. This looks like its a step in the right direction!

I recommend UpdraftPlus for backups. It does file backups (so uploads, plugins, blah blah blah) but also database backups. These backups can be stored elsewhere or emailed to you. Very handy. It can be scheduled, email you when its lonely and is also free. The last bit is the seller! Its also frequently updated, which is also refreshing - so many plugins get written then forgotten about by their authors.

Envato Corporate Sale - some themes and plugins with 40% off this week (note: some are HTML and not WP).

I've just come back to WP after a long break as I was requested to setup a small site for a local club.

I currently have the following plugins:
Askimet
Dropbox backup and restore
Google Auth
Google Auth per user
Ithemes security
User Access manager
WP-Supercache
WP-Spamshield

Anything there I should avoid and any I should consider.
One thing I'd like to do is hide the wp-admin page

I'd remove Dropbox... only because in 2012 they had a data breach and 68 million account details were stolen. Ouch.
iThemes Security would hide the wp-admin page, allowing you to suffix it with something extra. You can do the same with wp-content.

I'd recommend UpdraftPlus. Its free but backs up both the files and database of a site at a regular schedule. It can save it on the server or email you.

I'd recommend Wordfence for security

That must have been what got a couple of ours too! I noticed the Jetpack releases coming hours apart...

Odd, this fix seems to have disabled the visual text editor.

Just following the 'protocol' of usual troubleshooting:

At Users -> Your Profile in your site’s Dashboard, make sure that “Disable the visual editor when writing” is *not* checked.

If it’s not checked, try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Twenty Sixteen theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

Its easy to assume the latest fix broke it, but try other options just in case it hasn't...
Are all your sites on the same server?

Thanks Chris. I did work through those steps and it worked fine when Jetpack was deactivated.

Thanks for the link to the Pinecone theme - really lovely and some nice tweaks available.

However, like a lot of themes it relies on the awkward Portfolio set up to produce a nice home page.

I'd like to have a homepage that could link directly to *some* of my posts - not the whole blogroll, possibly not even all my categories, and not with a slider.

I've come close with themes that have homepage widget areas and used code to show the roll for a category, but has anyone any experience of plugins or work arounds?

I'm asking the hivemind...

You could add a new tag and set up a posts page for that category in the custom menu.

This is going to sound like a stupid question - especially from someone who creates websites for a living !!!!

I have had a domain with vidahost for several years and when I first got it I set up the basic 'hello world' WP site on it and thought nothing about it since. Anyway this has been fine until the past week when I started to be flooded with "Site Lockout Notification" emails.

Other than removing WP from the site is there a "proper" way to stop these ?

Robots are trying to brute force attack your site. I would install this:

https://en-gb.wordpress.org/plugins/wordfence/

Also check the website logs to see where the traffic is coming from and block it if possible.

You may also want to check your site to check it is correctly updated and hasn't been hacked already.
