Thanks for the reply!

I have also found the following that might also work:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/custom...ssion-manager/

https://registrationmagic.com/

I'll have a look into these options and see if they will cover everything.

Cheers,

Psycho

Envato have started their annual "12 days of freebies" Xmas promotion. I won't bother posting them all, but it's got off to a good start -

WP theme - Simple Article - and demo page.

As you might expect, each freebie is only available for 24hrs.

Update to WP to 4.7.2 asap

Content Injection Vulnerability in WordPress - Hi guys - I'm guessing you all keep plugins + core updated, but just a headsup.

If you manage a few sites, there are centralised services to help keep everything up to date - 7 Tools To Manage Multiple Sites From Single Dashboard.

When I get the time, I'll be going back to ManageWP (and plugin) as it recently updated its pricing model to include an unlimited number of sites for free (with paid addons).

I've got to make a website for the Basketball team I help coach. I've used Wordpress.com for simple free sites I've used for things so my plan is to get Vidahost starter Wordpress package. Will be more than sufficient for our needs.

I'd rather not have to spend some of our limited funds on a premium Wordpress theme, so could anyone direct to good places to find decent free themes please?

'Free CSS Templates' (bizarrely) do a wodge of Wordpress themes. They're not fantastic, but 'usable'...

http://www.free-css-templates.com/wordpress-themes/

I've Artisteer (template generator) which again, can create 'acceptable' responsive themes, so if you know a 'sort of' site you like, I can whip up an example.

SiteOrigin has a very good pedigree, and a range of free themes. And you can use their page builder and widgets plugins - very popular and well-reviewed.

Or for more variety, scroll down Popular Themes on WP itself, and then add a free page builder plugin such as Elementor or Live Composer.

If you decide to go premium, then Visual Composer is the #1 page builder, and I'd recommend Divi theme with its builder if you get the developer bug (use on unlimited sites for no extra charge; superb support community).

Quite important if you use Wordpress. Some of my sites haven't auto updated.

If you have not already updated your WordPress websites to WordPress 4.7.2, please do so immediately. While three security vulnerabilities were disclosed in the original release post last week, a disclosure of an additional security fix in WordPress 4.7.2 was announced yesterday.

Because of the significance of this vulnerability, we strongly recommend that you update your WordPress websites to WordPress 4.7.2 as quickly as possible.

Good luck, John. Feel free to ask any questions.

Meanwhile, another free WP theme this month at Envato - Aresivel - simple, 'clean', looks quite good.

A quick shout out to these guys - I've been using their Instagram Feed plugin for some time, and am now after a new FB Feed plugin - pleased to see they make one too (and a Twitter version).

They work very well out of the box, so the free versions will probably suit you fine. Use to embed your social media feeds into your website.

Thinking of using this on my Basketball team's new WP driven site.

I had a little look at the plugin page. Am I wrong or is it that it will just show everything on your feed and basically format it how you want?

I'd only need certain posts appearing on the website version of the feed and only the post contents, not comments underneath etc. Can it do that?

  • Show and hide certain parts of each Facebook post
  • Display Facebook posts by just the page owner, everyone who posts on your Facebook page, or only other people
(https://wordpress.org/plugins/custom-facebook-feed/)

Looks like you need the pro version to view comments on posts anyway, so the free version won't show comments on posts.

Yes, actually their FB plugin is somewhat limited in the free version, as it doesn't display photos. Might be useful in a sidebar though, to supplement a twitter feed. However the Instagram plugin is excellent and works exactly how you would expect. If FB is an important part of your website, it would be worthwhile to stump up for the premium version.
Anyone got a good fully-featured FB feed embed plugin to recommend ?

TINT is a superb premium (v.expensive) business solution. Free version is very limited and has their logo (I'm trying to move away from this).

WordPress Social Stream - cheap in comparison, at $20.

And the freebies -

Juicer - perfect for 1 or 2 feeds (monthly charge for more). Admin is done on a separate website (which sounds clumsy, but as TINT it works really well).

Feed Them Social - the free version seems to offer loads of functionality and is v.well reviewed.

I have a 20MB upload limit on a WP site (long story, can't be increased any more).

But I am expecting a video to upload sometime soon. Possibly larger.

Would dropping it directly into the relevant folder in the root directory and adding it to a page manually (in text view) work okay?

You can manually create the dated folders in the wp-content directories and dump the file there, but it won't get picked up in the 'media library' so you'll have to create the links manually.

Should work fine though.

Do you expect a lot of downloads from this video though? Might be worth 'hosting' it on YouTube or similar so they get hit by the bandwidth, not you. Alternatively, host the file on something like WeTransfer.com and get people to download it?
If bandwidth limits aren't a problem, then I'll shut up!

Yes, I would definitely upload to YouTube (or FB) and you can easily embed into WP from there. Added bonuses:
- you can get extra exposure/views from the other platform too, as people can discover you there.
- they will serve your video at an appropriate resolution for your site visitors.
Also -
- FB loves videos, and promoting one for $10 goes a long way.
- YouTube makes it easy to add a licence-free music track (if you need one).
