A process (plugin or script) has spun out of control. 530 MB of memory is quite a lot used up. I assume you wouldn't have the tools to diagnose what it is on the server, so just a notificatyion to their support would give them a clue as to what to do - check whats running on your account, and kill any naughty processes.

I'm looking to create a photo upload and sharing WP site - anyone done similar, or seen any useful themes/plugins ?

It would seem quite a common/simple enough idea, but the only way at the moment seems to be to create user login areas with one plugin, and user uploads/submissions with another.

The only themes I've found which go part way are for user-submitted news items - I Love It and Foot and syncope or maybe some code (tricky!): ArtVenue.

Has anyone had any experience with WooCommerce?

I've not used it before but wanted to find out if the following was possible without any extra plugins.

Say you have an item but it come in multiple sizes and you need to keep track of the stock, do you need to create a new product for each size or can you just set the number available for each size under the one product?

i.e.

Product: Blue Trainers
Sizes: 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11
Stock: 5 = 10, 6 = 10, 7 = 10, 8 = 5, 9 = 5, 10 = 5, 11 = 5
Total Stock: Blue Trainers = 50

Or would you have to have multiple products:

Product 1: Blue Trainers
Sizes: 5
Stock: 10
Total Stock: 10

Product 2: Blue Trainers
Sizes: 6
Stock: 10
Total Stock: 10

Product 3: Blue Trainers
Sizes: 7
Stock: 10
Total Stock: 10

etc...

Also, can you add an extra add-on item for each product?

i.e.

Product: Blue Trainers
Sizes: 5
Extra 1: Insole £X.XX
Extra 2: Collection (Free) or Delivery (£X.XX)

Many thanks.

Very little experience here, but sounds like you want to create a "variable product" - https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/variable-product/

Thanks!

I'm sure it must be possible and something a lot of online shops must need.

I might just need to start playing around with the plugin and see what it can do.

I had a go with WooCommerce a while ago - it's impressive for a free plugin, but I found it complicated in identifying the functions that are natively inbuilt and the features you need plugins for (and then there's the 'official' Woo plugins, and the third party ones, and both free and paid types of each).

I would highly recommend using a theme that has been designed as a Woo e-store - this saves loads of time integrating Woo pages/features with the rest of the site (ime) plus some themes come with store-specific extras (eg: image zoom, quick view, wishlist) that you would otherwise need to find (or buy) a plugin for (along with all the custom css that goes with it).

One plugin I did buy that seems pretty much essential if you have more than a few dozen store items is : WooCommerce Advanced Bulk Edit ($23). It adds excel/database-like functionality to your list of products, and allows for rapid edit/update of many items simultaneously. (There are several other similar plugins with similar functionality, none of them free, iirc).

Thanks for the replies about WooCommerce.

We've stuck with it and the website is coming together!

I'm now having an issue with another website and I'm trying to determining if the problem is the plugin or the hosting company.

I updated the plugin NextGEN Gallery for a client but a few days later they contacted me to say that they are getting the following message when trying to view the galleries at the frontend and backend, and when they try creating a new gallery the upload gets stuck at about 10%:

RuntimeException thrown

A_Gallery_Storage_Frame_Event does not exist.

For this website I have two versions running, one that I use for testing. The live website is on my clients hosting company but the testing website is on my hosting company.

Firstly I rolled back the version of the NextGEN Gallery on both versions -- I forgot to test if the problem was happing on the test website first -- and then did some tests.

The test website seems to have no problems but the live version still brings up the same message, even thought it didn't a few weeks ago when using the previous version of NextGEN Gallery.

This would seem to imply that there isn't anything wrong with the plugin, as it works on the test website?

The only difference between the two is the different hosting companies.

Does this seem like a message linked to something wrong with the hosting company?

Many thanks,

Psycho

EDIT: I have run some more tests with the test website, including updating the NextGEN Gallery plugin to the latest version and I am getting no issues or "RuntimeException thrown" messages. It is only happening with the live version of the website.

Thanks for that... not sure how I missed that on their support page.

I have forwarded that to the host company but they are currently restoring an older version of the website, which I assume will have the same problem if I update the plugin again.

Hopefully they can make the necessary changes at their end to stop the problem happening again.

This is a rare thing (and timely for you, Psycho ) - a Woocommerce WP theme from Envato as part of their "Free Files of the Month" promo.

Demo. Download: Grotte - A Dedicated WooCommerce Theme (you need an account)

Another question!

Can anyone recommend an easy way to add a few responsive tables to a page, possibly using a plugin?

I need to add 3 tables with postcodes, dates, etc.

If they are responsive then I can try them out in a few positions on the page using Visual Composer, rather than creating different widths depending on the layout.

Ideally I'd like to have cell boarders and/or alternate row colours (light grey and white seems to be popular).

Thanks,

Psycho

Sure, look no further than TablePress. What other plugin averages 5/5 after 2500 votes ?!

It takes a while to get familiar with how it works, and you may find yourself doing plenty copy/pasting and find/replacing your css to get the rows/columns styled to your liking, but otherwise it's great and with loads of documentation.

There are a few free and premium extensions (including one for responsiveness) but you probably won't need them.

Be sure to rate it 5 stars and maybe even buy Tobias a coffee.

Thanks for the reply and suggestion.

It was easy to use and looks like it should be suitable!

Envato Cyber Monday Sale - loads of stuff 50% off from now till 01-Dec.

Surprised to see Ubermenu in there as it's one of the top menu plugins afaik. There are a couple of photo WP themes which look quite good too, but I've not had chance to look through everything (shout if you spot something).

Just getting a page of code so I have to go into the root directory and remove / reinstall it.

Good article here, from GoDaddy no less - What are the best free WooCommerce themes?

Even though it sounds like a standard SEO-boosting headline/article, stuffed full of keywords, they've actually tested theme performance (rather than listing design/features).

This free 'magazine-style' theme looks excellent - ionMag, with demo .

I can't see how they're making any money with this - looks to be newly launched, and their third-party theme reviews don't even have affiliated links. I guess they're trying to get a foothold in the already crowded market.

Can anyone recommend a plugin (paid or free) that would do the following:

Online registration/subscription form with quite a few different fields, including drop down options and yearly subscription rates.

It would need a final section that would allow the user to pay for any selected subscriptions via PayPal, Credit/Debit Card, GoCardless or the option to pay in person with cash or cheque.

Due to the length of the registration form, I was hoping it would be possible to split it into sections over a few pages, with a possible progress bar at the top, i.e. Page 1 = Account Details, Page 2 = Personal Details, Page 3 = Address Details, etc.

Once the user has registered they would receive a confirmation email and can then log into the website to monitor there subscription and renew when needed.

Once their subscription has ended they will automatically no longer have access unless they renew their subscription - this should be a simple renew process, rather than going through the registration process again.

Not sure if that is possible or whether this might need a custom plugin?

Many thanks,

Psycho

Off the top of my head, of those I've used there's WooCommerce Subscriptions but it is a bit pricy for a plugin - it's an add-on for the free WooCommerce shop setup.

https://woocommerce.com/products/woo...subscriptions/

Not sure if it can do all you ask for, but pretty sure it ticks most of the boxes. I see there's also a slightly cheaper plugin that seems to handle much the same thing:

https://codecanyon.net/item/subscrip...ptions/8754068

These also take payment via Stripe which if you're looking for a "better Paypal", I'd have no hesitation in recommending, have used it for two years now without a problem.
