What show were you watching? There were chairs pre-Matt Smith. They looked like seats from an old car.

Re the chameleon circuit - he tried to fix it twice in Logopolis (disaster) and Attack of the Cybermen (turned in to an organ, a gate...) Eventually it broke again and it was decided the old look worked better.

I still think he should include chairs to fly the ship from, to avoid backache and arthritis. (i.e. I hadn't noticed those, whoops.)

The most crucial add-on would be a chameleon circuit to permanently disguise Matt Smith's repellent, wet-lipped face.
