Plex may well be having to transcode this for playback. If not the video, then possibly only the audio. What audio do the broken files have compared with the working files?

Plex for Android / IOS is 60% off at the moment, but surprise surprise, not compatible with my Galaxy S3 or my Nexus 7

Any Plex Server users on here?

They're all mp4 files, I'll persevere

Last night though I discovered 'media link' which shows all artwork and synopsis etc. I'm well chuffed!

Since my Boxee died I've started using Plex to streaming from my Linux media server to a Chromecast. It sometimes works fine, but recently its started pausing to buffer every 30 seconds or so, which is obviously rather annoying.

Anyone have any ideas on where the bottleneck is likely to be, or how I can find out? My Plex server, the network or the Chromecast..?

I had that issue and it turned out to be a failing hard drive in the server.

hadn't realised there was a Plex thread here

OT, but my problem is that it's set up to download TV shows direct to my Android tablet

works fine most of the time, but sometimes, if I'm away from home, all TV shows get deleted (not just can't see them, but actually gone from the internal storage)

doesn't matter if I have it set to online or offline

any ideas?

Just to follow up on this, I've done a bit of testing and found that I can stream from iPlayer to the Chromecast without problems, and I've also got the Boxee working and can stream the same media to that via SMB without problem. So I'm guessing it's a Plex-specific problem rather than with my network/Chromecast.

Is it likely to be the transcoding stuff that Plex does? Maybe my microserver hasn't got sufficient welly to do that quick enough?

Any thoughts?

Microserver is fine for plex. Stream to my ipad, and 2x nowtv boxes.

I have found it to be iffy when the wireless network was busy.

Just done a bit of Googling and found a debug log that shows your transcoding speed. Mine is coming out at around 0.7, whereas you need 1+ to transcode in realtime (according to this).

Odd that my microserver isn't transcoding fast enough but yours does.

Plex has never given me a problem on my Micoserver. I stream most of my stuff to my PC in work.

How much memory does your have ?

It sounds like either a HD or bandwith issue to me.

Just the standard 2GB. If it was an HD/bandwidth issue, wouldn't that show up when streaming direct via SMB to my Boxee? The buffering only occurs when it goes via Plex.

Quick question. I'm going to use Plex to store my photos. Is there any particular/efficient way in organising them? At the moment, on my PC, I have them saved as follows:

My Pictures/YEAR/MONTH/Date - Location

i.e. /2014/July/20th July 2014 - London

Just wondering if Plex has a preference on how you organise your photos on the server? I was wondering perhaps reverse year naming might work (i.e. 20140720) - at least then it will be in the correct order.

Cheers.

Plex question which I can't figure out, I've set up an account at home and I think I need the pass with Home Sharing so my g/f can log in on the app and access our stuff. But can I not just set her up as a friend for free so she can access the library on her iPad etc?

Anyone had an invite and tried the new Plex Cloud storage?

https://www.plex.tv

I'm getting to the stage where i could do with beefing up my current hard drive but this could be a cheaper and tidier solution.

Amazon do a three month free trial to their unlimted storage drive, if i get an invite I'm tempted to give it a shot.

Anyone doing this currently?

No pass required, just make sure you have the setting enabled to give you access to the server from an external IP address.
