Well worth it as an introduction to Sonos.
they're doing the free bridge thing with the other 2 models as well (until 31/12/13)

found out this week that they can finally link to Amazon Cloud Player so got a 3-model this week (+ 2nd gen ipod touch from ebay as dedicated controller)

wife not happy

Just got a playbar and have 2 play 1s on order to build a wireless 5.1 system

I will get a play 5 for the kitchen dining room as it is a big space to fill
Impressed so far, however, one optical in has meant i have had to order an optical switch box and the lack of dts support is criminal negligence.....

Rdio is also good with Sonos. You have have up to three separate streams at the same time from one rdio account through you sonos setup! unlike spotify which only lets you have one.

It's fairly easy to set up a US Rdio account as well to make it a few quid cheaper....!

Have picked up a play:1 from amazon, and they shipped the bridge immediately (which I then marketplaced and sold for £25).

I'll buy another in the US next week probably when i'm there. I already have two play:3, a play:5, a connect:amp and a playbar.

Sorry for editing your quote, but the Playbar's expense and the lack of fundamental requirements for me led me to buy a Yamaha amp and Elac speaker system. Worked out at half the price of the 5.1 Sonos equivalent.

I'm getting a Play:1 for the bedroom and will move the Play:3 downstairs to create a stereo pair in one room and keep the Play:5 in the larger room.

Sonos - aural crystal meth.

Why have they not included DTS? Is there a technical reason they can't or is it a licensing issue?

Not sure, cheap av amps have it you have to imagine Sony could have licensed it too.
They keep promising a decision on updating but nothing yet

Unfortunately it means i cant get 5.1 at all from many new bluray discs

I have added a splitter and at least the DD 5.1 from my dvds sounds great - Sonos is a compromise to allow for pur room layputs and desire for multi room, however the lack of inputs and Dts is a compromise too far for most people

Sonos Play 3 and 5. Any good?

I got a play1 and the bridge setup today. Does anyone know how to get pandora into the music list? I have a VPN on the phone and can use pandora no problem.

Presumably you need a US IP address. You'll need to have your Sonos going through a VPN either set up in your router or via another device on your network that can act as the VPN client to a VPN service. It's a pain that you can't set the DNS address for Sonos devices.

Will your router let you direct traffic through a VPN?

I've never used Pandora (hadn't actually heard of it until you mentioned it!) but I use US Spotify and Rdio fine without having a US IP address - for those you just need to register on the website whilst connected to a US VPN.

Check out the FAQs and helps on http://www.unotelly.com/unodns/channels, Unblockus and Unlocator, they should have something.

How does the Play1 sound? They're due out here at the beginning of December and I'm looking to get one.

Thanks I will take a look at that FAQ. I have had a pandora account for about 8 years. It's great but I have to use tunnelbear on my phone and I was hoping to use it with the Play1.

The Play1 is pretty awesome for a small little box. Sound is great, I was going to get a play 3 as well but I am glad I didn't as this is perfect for our house. I will get another Play1 for the bedroom and maybe 1 more for the kitchen. Well worth the money and I don't think I am losing much over the play 3.

Just added a couple of Play:1s to my soundbar. Very impressive, even without the SUB!

That's good to hear! I want one for the kitchen. It opens on the to the lounge where there's a playbar under the telly. It'll be good for listening to the radio in the kitchen but then grouping it with the playbar for music.

Just used a tenner O2 priority voucher and paid £160 for a Play 1.

It's quite weighty despite it's small size, and the sound quality is great - considering how small it is. But now we're sort of bought into the Sonos way of things we're looking to get music in the lounge through our 5.1 surround setup.

£169 for a Play 1 which has speakers built in - but want the Sonos connect which needs your speakers - £279

£110 premium for having some phono connectors instead of speakers? Are they having a laugh?

Yeah, they're hugely overpriced aren't they (the sonos connect)! I'd get one if it was a decent price but that's just ridiculous.

I went into a local store on Saturday to ask about the Sonos 1 as it's due out here next week. The guy asked his colleague and then said they have one in. Woo! So I bought one. Got it home and my wife said "ooh, that can be a christmas present" and then promply hid it! Gah! I feel cheated now! She out of the country for the rest of the week and I was going to go in and get one anyway and would have had it set up before she got home! Now she wants me to wait three weeks for it!

What's the three months music sub that comes with it, btw? Deezer?

I'm waiting for 2x Play 1's for the living room and will flog my Squeezebox Touch if I/wife am happy.

Pricing does seem a bit I don't think the Play 1's are badly priced but £600 for the soundbar and same again for the sub is awful.

I sold both my SB touchs on eBay for around £220 each (paid around £150 each for them!)

The play bar is expensive but it sounds great. We use ours all the time now instead of the TVs speakers.

~the playbar is indeed worth the money, especially so with the rears. Makes a huge, huge difference and a lot better integrated and natural sounding than any amp/5.1 setup I've had in the past.

Play 1's have arrived and have passed the wife test. I can certainly see us getting more as finances allow.

She wasn't sure about using phone/tablet to control as she always liked the Squeezebox screen but that seems to have been solved.

One thing she used a lot on the SB was "random" song play. I can't see a way to do this on Sonos, am I missing it?

I've not heard one but I bet they sound great! I don't think I'll get one until we move out of an apartment! Don't think the people below would be too impressed!

Got my Play1 set up. Liking that I can still group it with the playbar on the TV so I can hear the telly when I'm in the kitchen without having to turn the playbar up loud!
