Are there any cheap power cable options, as they now only include a USB cable to charge from a PC. The plug bit with charger is £12.99 extra.

Seems same arrangement as Apple. Can I use an iPhone or iPad plug charger as that has a USB input like the Kindle one ?

Any USB power supply will work.

I think Amazon charge a fortune for the widgit to power lights from the kindle itself so no one uses it.

Thanks
It did look like a normal USB charger, so was dubious about paying Amazon for theirs.

Plus Kindle uses the same plug as most android and blackberry phones, so if you have a charger for that you can do the kindle from that

how the hell do amazon think Kindle editions of Song of Ice and Fire volumes should be more expensive than paperbacks?

Was in the US recently and noticed the Touch is only $99 over there - how does that work? Is it add supported or something or are we being royally screwed?

its to do with currency conversion, tax amounts (VAT and import duties) and to some extend yes we do pay more, on the K3 (Keyboard) you paid around £10 more than getting it from the USA

On the plus side if you get the 3G it will work anywhere in the world for free, the USA used to charge you for use outside America, not sure if it still does.

It's silly isn't it, but the new paperbacks are on offer at the moment. I just bought all seven, and appears to be an extra hidden offer on top of that too because I got one of them for free.

When are we going to get active content and the ability to gift books in the UK?

I have some on iOS, but I want to relieve my youth again with the Fighting Fantasy books on my Kindle.

Unless your discussion is specific to the Kindle Touch and the Touch has a different power consumption to all other Kindles I can tell you that Kindles need 800mA from a wall charger. Most mobile phone chargers (Blackberry, Nokia etc) and the iPod chargers come in at 500 or 600mA so no, you can't use any charger otherwise you'll fry the charger.

If you have a Blackberry Playbook, iPad or Android Tablet those chargers should work as they are normally rated between 1500mA and 2000mA and allow a much greater charge to pass through without warming up too much.

Came to switch on my Kindle the other day, and it just wont fire up...the green light comes on but then goes off again...

I've tried charging, but the light won't change to anythng other than orange even after several hours, so I'm wondering if I have a battery issue.

Anyone come across this?

cheers

I had something similar, could not get the unit to turn on or charge. Had to get a replacement.

Have you tried a hard reset? May not work but worth a try - hold the power switch for 20 seconds.

Ahhh...that seems to have pulled it back to life....thanks...!!

I had been using it on a plane before it froze, and I was wondering if I should have turned off the wireless and maybe I had confused it somehow..

thanks

As it's a transmitting device, you should have turned the wireless off during the flight anyway I've seen the attendants ask for Kindles to be tuned off during take off too.

I currently travel weekly on Norwegian and am surprised they never make passengers turn off Kindles for takeoff and landing, when you have to turnoff iPads, MP3 players etc

Just my luck by the time my Kindle Touch arrives at the end of the month thy will have stopped them as well.
