Two characters cast so far (Natalie Dormer as Margaery Tyrell, Gwendoline Christie as Brienne). I'm quite happy with both of those choices. It's easy to think that Gwendoline is far too attractive for Brienne, but that can easily be fixed - just look at Charlize Theron in Monster.

For casting updates this is probably the best place: http://winter-is-coming.net/features...ason-two-cast/

Yeah - both good choices I think. I'm pretty sure they can ugly up Brienne as needed.

Stannis is going to be the key character here - his actor needs to be spot on. It would be ******* hilarious if Joseph Fiennes gets touted, since Camelot has now been cancelled.

Having seen more pictures of Christie outside of photoshoots I think they can probably ugly her up a little better with a prosthetic nose and some fake teeth, I wonder if she'll be building up muscle for the role? Would need serious dedication, otherwise maybe they'll give her a fighting style more akin to Syrio Forel's than the more standard style of the knights of Westeros.

Stannis is probably the most important bit of casting for the season, a young Bill Nighy would have been ideal!

No truth to the Gerald Butler rumour then?

None whatsoever, and I really don't think he would have been a good fit, anyway.

Yeah I can't see Butler as Stannis either, he probably would have made a decent Robert if he had been casted and let himself go enough - or maybe if they intended to do a flashback to the rebellion could they have been looking at Butler for Robert in that?

I've only just got interested in this after watching s1 but surely Stannis must be Mark Strong?

Yeah I'd love to see Mark Strong as Stannis but i doubt they will get him as he seems to be doing well in Holywood right now (Robin Hood, The Green Lantern). I'd also suggest Jason Isaacs but i doubt they will be able to get him either.

I dunno about Strong as Stannis myself, obviously he's a good enough actor to pull off most roles, but I always imagined Stannis as someone who is hard, lean and somewhat fragile looking ie: like the description from the book: Hard and brittle as iron. Strong seems too much of a screen hardman for me, although I think he'd be great as someone more "dangerous" like Oberyn Martell or one of the Greyjoys: Euron or Victarion.

Jason Isaacs is a great suggestion though, he'd get the harshness of Stannis just right and characterise that iron analogy more naturally than Strong imo. Even though he's as physically robust as Strong, he's not as intimidating in that "hard man" way.

Have you seen him in Brotherhood? He did good intimidation in that.

I forgave them Syrio, as he was perfect in every other way...but I'll be disappointed if they don't make Stannis bald. Something a bit like how I imagined Pryrates from Tad Williams' Memory, Sorrow and Thorn should look.

Isaacs might be a little too old for the role. Butler can't really act for toffee.
Not really sure who would be ideal for Stannis. Winteriscoming.net reckons Ecclestone would be a good fit, and to be honest, I can see where they are coming from.
If he were a little older, Christian Bale.

I'd always assumed part of Brienne's 'ugliness' is her refusal to be maidenly and her size. By that I mean she's more hideous in the world of GoT because of not being what's expected, whereas we would find her less displeasing from our more enlightened POV.

I haven't, always meant to check it out though! Isaacs can play pretty much anything though I suppose (not seen enough variety from Strong as I mostly know him from his film roles)

I could see Ecclestone in the part as well, although I think there are much better choices. I think Isaacs would be passable age-wise as they've increased the ages of Ned/Robert/Catelyn to early-to-mid 40s in the show (at least Bean and Fairley look in their 40s) and Stannis is only a couple years younger than Robert (and he's supposed to look older than his years).

Not really a spoiler, but just in case:

Isaacs is a scary ******* in Brotherhood, nails the intimidating on the edge psycho very well.

Isaacs has signed up for a new US TV show so he won't be getting a part.

3 new parts have been cast, but we don't know who yet:

Quote:
British actor Clive Standen, who most recently appeared in Starz’s short-lived Camelot, has let slip on Twitter that he has heard the names of three actors that will be added to the Game of Thrones cast for season two. He calls the news “massive” and reveals that one of the 3 appeared with him on Camelot, while another appeared in some other Arthurian film or TV show.
God, I hope it's not Clive Owen.

Ray Stevenson was in King Arthur. Fingers crossed.

He rocked it in Rome.

Mads Mikkelson maybe? Another King Arthur bloke.

Stephen Dillane as Davos Seaworth maybe?
James Purefoy as Stannis?
Stellan Skarsgård as Balon Greyjoy would be awesome but highly unlikely.

Not that King Arthur & Camelot are the only Arthurian film or TV shows out there!
