Not sure if my recording cut off very early (half way through WWTLF) but ... did Sky Arts really just give 6 minutes of air time ( out of a total of 6 hours ) to the headline act at the IOW festival?

Something nice coming for Freddie's 70th birthday apparently.

Remixed Mr Bad Guy can be the only thing that is left, surely? And it'd need some SERIOUS remixing to make it anything other than a curio.

Well there will be a release of Freddie's solo singles on vinyl, a few days before his birthday in September:

http://www.queenonline.com/en/news-a...s-the-singles/

I'd guess there could be something more announced later, but I think that's it for his 70th.

70th birthday for Freddie today. A sad loss, but it would feel weird to have an older version of him around.

It's better to burn out than to fade away.

Forgive the poor loathsome toad
Nothing quite like grave robbing to celebrate the deceased's birthday. Mind you his ex business partners are the main shovelers.

A shame there's no big archive release happening this September, just a Freddie singles box repackage. Where's my Hyde Park '76?

Now this is a bit more interesting: http://www.queenonline.com/en/news-a...-bbc-sessions/

Quote:
Queen On Air

The Complete BBC Radio Sessions

Available as 2-CD set and 3-LP set / Collector’s Edition 6-CD set with added live concert broadcasts and radio interviews

Released globally November 4 on Virgin EMI. Hollywood Records for North America.

Queen’s meteoric ascendancy during the 1970s has been well documented. From their gloriously ambitious self-titled debut album of 1973 through to the album that put them in the superstar bracket, 1975’s A Night At The Opera, and beyond, this unique group carved out a singular path as the most visionary, inventive and charismatic band of that epic decade.

But there is another side to Queen’s rise that has been largely overlooked. Between February 1973 and October 1977, the band recorded six radio sessions exclusively for the BBC. The twenty four recordings these landmark sessions produced include alternate versions of the debut single, unique takes of classic album tracks and even a radically reworked reimagining of one of their best known anthems that has never previously appeared on any Queen studio release.

Now, for the very first time, all six Queen BBC sessions - meticulously restored by Queen engineer Kris Fredriksson and mastered by Grammy Award winner Adam Ayan - have been brought together on Queen On Air, released on November 4 by Virgin EMI. North America through Hollywood Records. Available as a 2-CD set and a 3-LP vinyl edition, plus a Deluxe 6-disc edition featuring a CD of live broadcasts and 3 CDs of radio interviews, Queen On Air is an essential addition for connoisseurs of the band.

CD1 - Session 1: 1. My Fairy King 2. Keep Yourself Alive 3. Doing All Right 4. Liar / Session 2: 5. See What A Fool I’ve Been 6. Keep Yourself Alive 7. Liar 8. Son And Daughter / Session 3: 9. Ogre Battle 10. Modern Times Rock’n’Roll 11. Great King Rat 12. Son And Daughter

A great release, this one. For those who haven't heard then on bootlegs, the final BBC session features sublime versions, possibly better than the album tracks.

They've filmed a few of these so it's inconceivable that a version of this tour won't get a release in the UK.

There's talk of another tour next year, so it'll probably be after that.

It's Queen at their peak, for me. Hard to believe four people could make so much noise. The NOTW to pre-The Game period is under represented on official live releases and it's a scandal as it shows what a great rock and roll band they were, before Fred fell out of love with the piano.

Queen on Air now up for preorder on pledgemusic. A 3 cd version that drops all the interview stuff would have been a better deal but hey you want that third cd of concert material you pay £30 extra

Not sure if this show was the funniest or stupidest thing I have ever watched in its entirety.

The dramatised bits were awful - was it even worth having the John Deacon actor there at all? And 'Brian' was hilarious.

Other than that it didn't seem to reveal anything new
