At the time, I loved the Queen + Paul Rodgers thing because it felt like the last time to see Queen 'live'. But in hindsight, it's largely insipid and is made all the more funny by the fact that Queen play the Bad Company / Free songs better than the original band.

This new tour is surely going to come back to the UK at some point - seems silly for it not to. I just wish that Brian and Roger thought that "diving back into the early stuff" was not just playing Stone Cold Crazy and then doing the Magic tour set all over again.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. The big put-off for me with everything that Brian and Roger have done over the past years is the horrible focus on the greatest hits. As as big fan of Queen, the greatest hits are among my least favourite of their output and we know that the real Queen existed in the album tracks.

This is why the release of the Rainbow '74 concerts in September is the most important thing they've put out since Made in Heaven. Unfortunately, I can predict that it will end up a niche product with modest sales. Cue Brian and Rog saying, "oh well Rainbow didn't sell that well so I guess people aren't interested, we won't bother with any more old archive material."

Bah.

It's been driving me crazy ... have they already done a UK leg ? Looks like it is Australia next.

It kind-of started in 2012 at Hammersmith Apollo, I suppose.

He's calmed it down a lot since that though so the songs sound less like they're being sung by a goat. If they come to the UK again, I'm going. Sooner or later it's going to be the last time they do this kind of thing.

I got to see them in Toronto a few weeks ago and I have to say it was a very good show. i was nervous with AL on vocals and I'd purposely avoided seeing any footage in advance. When you get past it's not Freddie up there then it becomes a very good show.

The new/old/barrel scrapping album is being produced by William Orbit.
Which is a rather strange choice.

Well, after surprising us with the excellent Rainbow release (for once, giving fans something they really want), we are back to the old repackaged hits nonsense:

I have been a devout Queen fan and convert since my virgin exposure to them on their Day at the Races tour in '77 (Earls Court)

Even now, so many years later (and having seen them 3 times live, with Freddie) I still think they were the best live band ever.

But I am afraid this "new" release really is taking the ****

Brian and Roger are turning into the George Lucas of the music world. How many ******* times do we have to buy the same product??!!

Very disappointed. (Of course some will say: "You don't HAVE to buy the CDs") That's not the point.

It is disappointing. But, I hope, many of those tracks, rather than some, will be reworked.

Have to say, I am blown away by Let me in your Heart Again. It reminds you just how special a singer that man was.

I can't stop playing Let Me in Your Heart Again Absolutely love it

Love Kills also is very strong, though very different obviously from all the other versions that exist. I guess they needed to approach it like this to create something new, rather than the version I expected every time people talked about a possible Queen version of the track being in the archives.

I don't know what to make of TMBMTLTT though - it's one of my favourite Freddie solo songs, but this doesn't seem to work for me just yet (though I'll get used to it I imagine). Don't really understand the mixing though - why is MJ so much clearer than Freddie? It can't be the source material since they have the solo to work from if they need to. Doesn't seem to be a good balance there.

Surprised that State of Shock isn't included, though some think it's being held back for a MJ album release, which would be fair enough I suppose.

Any word on Victory?

Queen were on the Chris Evans breakfast show yesterday and weren't too happy happy with the mix and thought the vocals were too low in the mix. Apparently they did their own mix which wasn't chosen.

Listened to the chris Evans, show via the link on Brian Mays website, and love the new stuff , when you hear Freddies voice, you do realise how bloody good he was, a point that kept being brought up in the interview,

Let me In Your Heart is great - love it.

The Love Kills thing - well, it's another remix isn't it. Does this make it the most remixed Freddie song? I think it probably does.

FM + MJ is a total car crash. Why have they trashed Freddie's vocal? And why, when they 'duet' does it sound so muddy - like 'chorus' is on the vocal instead of two separate vocals?

So, yeah, I've heard them now - so at least I don't have to purchase a CD full of Brian May-penned songs that were never that great, but which are now being touted as 'undiscovered classics'.

I'm off back to listen to Rainbow '74.

Haven't heard it yet but it can't be any worse than the Dobson/May version

It is. It's hard to believe they left it off The Works and put keep passing the open windows on.

Let Me In Your Heart Again was very 'meh' for me on first listen, thought it sounded extremely middle-of-the-road. Having heard it on the radio a couple of times since, it's grown on me a lot. Freddie sounds great and Brian's guitar playing is superb.

Interesting above comment about Keep Passing the Open Windows, as it's not only one of my favourite songs on The Works, it's one of my all time favourite Queen songs!
