Had a listen through to it - enjoyed it, not keen on the saxaphone solos though but I enjoyed Small and Say It's Not True much more than I thought I would (I really liked the QPR versions).

It's a lot more interesting than listening to Brian May busking with Sophie Ellis Bextor or whatever her name is .

I'm LOVING listening again to Fun In Space too. And playing Final Destination (Yoshiki version) very loudly has made my day!

Anyone here been to the May/Ellis candlelight concert? The OH has asked if I wanted to go for a christmas present and, whilst what I have heard about the Queen acoustic stuff, I am just not sure. Any thoughts?

My brother went to Bridgewater hall in Manchester with his mrs and they both enjoyed it , don't know what else to say really , just don't go expecting Fat Bottomed Girls (unless their in the audience)

Ok - I realise that. But the sort of stuff like:

I find really interesting but if there isn't much of it (and lots of Kerry Ellis) then ....

Have a listen to the CD Acoustic By Candlelight - it's on Spotify. That's what to expect. People who go seem to love the concerts as they're very informal and personal.

Not my thing though. Too many songs from the musicals. As if Queen was not camp enough lol.

Big news from Brian:

It sounds so fresh, now all carefully transferred into the ProTools environment - but sounding exactly like it did straight off the 24-track tape it was recorded on ... OVER THIRTY YEARS AGO ! I got quite emotional hearing some of it ... some rough takes, some discussion and banter, and then a really good take, and some overdubs, and ... well, it's crying out to be finally brought into the world. What's great is nobody has got hold of this and leaked it. How brilliant is that? So many surprises get ruined these days ... it only takes some clever dick to steal a rough mix of some unfinished recording and forever more it si out then on the Internet, being chewed up by everyone before it's even had a chance to be born properly. Well, this is something shiny and to all intents and purposes NEW. And we get the chance to polish it in private, without advice from all and sundry !

Roger and I are both working on 'archaeology' this week, in our separate studio set-ups, and we'll meet up to compare notes very soon, and figure out where we go from here. I can't help but feel a buzz. I'm energised again. It's nice to be putting the Queen hat on again for a while. This year will be interesting, to say the least.
Sounds like the rarities box sets may finally be happening. FINALLY!

Some of these are rumoured for a Made In Heaven Part 2-type album. William Orbit just tweeted that he is working on a Queen version of There Must Be More To Life Than This with vocals from Freddie and Michael Jackson so it looks like things are afoot.

As one cheese-fest ends...

We Will Rock You, the hit musical based on the songs of Queen, is to close in the West End after a 12-year run.

The show, which is the longest-running production in the history of the Dominion Theatre, will have its final curtain call on 1 June 2014.
...another begins...

Quote:
QUEEN + ADAM LAMBERT JOIN FORCES FOR A SUMMER ARENA TOUR

- Brian May, Roger Taylor + Adam Lambert Kick Off North American Tour June 19 In Chicago -

Queen + Adam Lambert will reign over a highly anticipated North American summer tour starting at the United Center in Chicago on Thursday, June 19. Brian May, Roger Taylor + Adam Lambert will come together for the first time in New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Dallas and more. The 19-date tour wraps Sunday, July 20 in Washington, DC at the Merriweather Post Pavilion, their only outdoor summer concert.
Largelly indifferent to both, to be honest. The musical was great fun as a soundtrack but terrible in every other area. Which would also describe how I feel about the Queen + Lambert thing.

The irony is, of course, that the musical largely sneers at the very format that create Adam Lambert, the reality TV show. But then Queen were never the most ideological band and tended to chase the money wherever it led.

Sad to see WWRY coming to an end - only ever (so far) saw it once and that was in preview.

Odd that Taylor, it seems, wasn't fully behind it but went on to think Queen Extravaganza was a good idea.

is quite cool. Good to know it's getting the Brian/Roger treatment for the rarities/archive album as well. But then I have always had a soft spot for the track anyway.

I've got the same instinct to hate the thing, but the more I see of it on YouTube, the more I like it. He's as camp and ridiculous as Freddie Mercury ever was and he sure can sing. It's a much better fit than Paul Rodgers.

It's infinitely better than Paul Rodgers, but then anything would be.
