Can't get enough of Janelle Monae. Listening to The ArchAndroid and Metropolis Suite on endless loop.

Only heard the album through once, so not too familiar with the rest - though I think it's the last track that could almost be an old gospel tune.

The record does sound messy at first, but I think every beat, silence, vocal distortion will eventually make complete sense. Would be surprised if it's not at least nominated for the Mercury.

Seeing him live at the end of Feb.
Didnt mind Limit from the first time I heard it, but I just saw it as an interesting cover version. Was surprised he'd made it 2nd for the "one to watch in 2011" (although 2nd to Jessie J). I just assumed his album/live show must be more special, but having heard it, it just sounds like he's taking the *******!

All I can say is a lot my favourite bands/artists I wasn't sure about at first. This album really is a bit different - I don't think Burial vs Anthony and the J's does it justice as a description. I doubt anyone's going to get it without a good few listens.

Leftfield - Leftism
DJ Shadow - The Private Press
Go! Team - Rolling Blackouts - Much better than their second long player
PJ Harvey - Let England Shake

Absolutely. Sometimes when I like an album straight away I soon get bored with it

To be honest I dont think I can be arsed to play it again. I'm sure I will at some point but its a real headscratcher why it got hyped up so much

The Wilhelm Scream isn't too hard to get into, so give that another listen at least.

Electronic/dubstep wise, I was getting more excited by Pariah than James Blake at the end of last year.

Think he's just doing EPs for the moment.

World Party - Bang!: Forgot what a great album this is!
Michael Nyman - Drowning by Numbers: Sweetly melancholic transformed Mozart.
The Decemberists - The King is Dead: Have listened to this about six times and it still hasn't clicked. Should be right up my street really.
Ryan Bingham - Junky Star: Ditto.
Brian Eno - Another Green World: Simply sublime

It's a good album, better than his 2nd, but I think anything that he does is probably going to struggle to live up to his debut, Mescalito.

As always, i'm trailing behind most people here & only just discovered the Aussie band, Cut Copy. Currently getting into their three albums, "In Ghost Colours" being my favourite so far.

The only "new" release i've been listening to (and enjoying) so far this year is White Lies "Ritual" which incredibly, I love even more than their debut album.

It's always a gamble with Trail of Dead. But i do like the new album. Reminds me a lot of a punk rock take on a Who rock opera.

The new Cut copy and PJ Harvey are still my platters that matter though.

Trail of Dead sort of ended for me at Source Tags & Codes. There were a couple of stinkers on there and when I heard Worlds Apart it was just even worse.

I've got a John Cooper Clarke best of on the way. I'd heard of him before, but had never really listened to him until someone posted a YouTube of 'Majorca' in response to me asking about Majorca on another forum. Bloomin' hilarious.

I used to love JCC but haven't heard anything from him in ages. Think I'll investigate that best of

I thought yuck on the first play through. It's grown on me but I wouldn't say its as good as their debut.

I did have a look at the albums. It seems there are actually tracks on the best of which aren't on the albums ('Majorca' being one of them).

I didn't enjoy my first listen either but from the second listen onwards, it got better & better & I love every track except the last one, whereas the first album has several tracks that do nothing for me.
