Really like Zola Jesus, especially their (her?) EP from last year.

I'm trying to get my head around the new Trail of Dead album. I've played it 5 times now and can't decide if it is utter genius or pretentious ********. I suspect my review will see me finding some kind of middle ground.

Other than that I've been enjoying the new Pete Yorn album and an old Mojo mag blues compilation in the car.

It's amazing how the Scandanavians get all these weird, interesting female singers and we get **** like Adele.

Compare and contrast.

Although both are basically The Knife.

We will always have Cocteau Twins though so it's not all bad.

I don't actually mind that new Adele record. She's a heck of a lot better than all the other dross clogging up the charts.

I just don't get the whole Adele/Duffy/Amy Winehouse thing, not that I'm suggesting they're too similar. I prefer my female singers a bit weird.

The other thing with Adele is, if you hear her in interview, she's *very* annoying, to the extent that you're not sure whether she's playing up the whole 'common' thing.

At the moment I find myself returning to the Smoke Faeries debut album.

She is certainly very arrogant and I don't think it's entirely justified. Her vocal talents are average at best.

After throwing on some Thin Lizzy after hearing about Gary Moore. Killer On The Loose currently playing. Not sure if he played on that song but still

Well two albums arrived this morning ( woa new releases actually arriving on release date... haven't had that in ages... thanks Zavvi )

Cut/Copy - Zonoscope : Excellent album, not as good as In Ghost Colours (as there are less stand out tracks), but is different in album style that it's hardly worth the comparison, am looking forward to seeing them live next month. Worth a listen, but listen to it as a whole (not pick and choose tracks here and there)..

James Blake - James Blake : Short album, but after the back of 3 excellent EPs last year (CYMK / Klavierwerke) who can blame him? It's a weird one, while every track is great (he does have a way), as an album I'm not sure it really bodes well... I think he's probably better suited to 4 track EPs.. which doesn't work well for my bank balance. Worth checking him out if you haven't already...

Computers & Blues....first listen I am finding it pretty poor. Will give it a better listen and take in the lyrics later!

gjkendall - That was the same conclusion I came to about Computers & Blues. Wonder what Skinner will do once The Streets are retired?

His earlier albums were at least about something...or even had tunes I could associate with..this album seems like a mish mash of his previous albums but none of it is a good.

Although the line about Frank Bruno made me smile.

If I hear him say 'on the roof of your car' again...I may go on a killing spree!

Chase and Status - No More Idols, a collection of club bangers essentially but each time I listen to it I have a massive grin across my face.

Devlin - Bud Sweat and Beers, only just started with this, doesn't seem as immediate as other albums from the brit rap pack but certainly worth persevering with.

James Blake album arrived today. I sense it's going to be one of those albums that needs a few listens, but it's quite possible we have another Dummy or Untrue on our hands.

Needs a few listens ?? Emporer's new clothes more like From what I heard it sounds like an auto-tuned Antony & the Johnsons rehearsing with Burial tuning up next door. Load of discordant arty b***ks if you ask me.
Limit to your love stands out as at least having a tune (no wonder that was sent to radio) - shame that was a cover
Jeez if thats the future of music I think I'll stick to the past thanks. There's nothing here that Laurie Anderson wasnt doing 30 years ago

It took me a while to get Limit To Your Love even. I first heard it at 6am one morning, while listening on my bedside radio. Sounds a bit bland until you hear it loud and make out the bass. I love the drops of silence too. The Wilhelm Scream I think is even better. Only heard the album through once, so not too familiar with the rest - though I think it's the last track that could almost be an old gospel tune.

The record does sound messy at first, but I think every beat, silence, vocal distortion will eventually make complete sense. Would be surprised if it's not at least nominated for the Mercury.

Seeing him live at the end of Feb.
