Apart from being expensive, I find these much too big. I don't want to take a bag everywhere I go and at least many paperbacks I can stick in my back or coat pocket

Still don't see the point of these really, I guess it's good if you are a real gadget lover but with the cost of the unit and the books it's not exactly a compelling purchase, especially as you still have to import it from the US. If you can buy a paperback from Tesco for £3.50 then buying an electronic version for up to double that (if you can get it...) seems pretty nuts, especially if the UK book prices will be higher than that in the US. I can understand wanting to carry a lot of music around in an ipod but not books, it's not as though you'd want to 'dip in' to chapters of different novels. The electronic papers are a good idea but it sounds like you'll be paying over the odds for those too. It would be good if e-book readers ended up tying into library services so you could borrow a book electronically though.

The PRS-505 is great because it's e-ink paper but the new models they've released have touch screen and some lighting thing which has added a film of some kind to enable the capability so suffer from glare apparently.

Mines arrived!!

Looks nice - screen is good (non reflective) but greyer than I was expecting. Keyboard is a bit crap.

Added my US amazon account and downloaded my copy of The Lost Symbol which opened on the last page read on my iPhone.

I think as I have a US account I should have been charged $1.99 for the download but i have no credit card on the account so dont seem to have been...

Not sure its worth £200 but as its comparable to similar UK devices but with 3G access plus amazo catalogue its probably the best option.

I dunno, amazon have a good catalogue but you can purchase books from the US sony bookstore for their devices with a little bit of jiggery pokery There's also US Sellers like booksonboard if you can't find a UK version of the title you're lookin for.

Hell now I'm confused!

The nook looks great - I particularly like the touch screen and the book lending features.

Well it's a sexy gadget, but....if I drop it on a hard floor will it still continue to work, like as book does. I buy most of my books from charity shops these days £1-3. It's a good idea, if....you can get any book thats been published, & is now out of print on it, so you can click the mouse, download any book & read it. That's many years down the line, if ever. Most of my favorite books are not available on any of these gadgets.

I have a 505 and really can't see what the fuss is about a 0.25 second refresh where the screen goes dark during the refresh - it takes less time than a traditional page turn would!

For the price difference between the Sony 505 and the newer Sony's & Kindle, I'd still recommend the 505 as the best of the current crop.

that's interesting, Blokie - I've never actually seen any of the ereaders in the flesh. Have you used the newer Sony, and still prefer the 505 ?

I'm not adverse to these but the current ones look so ugly. I tried the Sony one out in Waterstones the other day and everytime you turned a page the whole screen flashed black before displaying the text - which I found very annoying.

Personally I'm waiting to see what Apple do with their tablet. Maybe iTunes will have a book store.....

Doubt there's much of a "maybe" about it...you know it'll be a guaranteed cert!
