I don't get why someone pays to go to a gig, takes the trouble to get near the front and then just lobs a bottle at a singer. Are these people with too much money and nothing better to do?

While there's no excusing the idiocy of someone who would throw anything at a performer, it doesn't seem to me that Moz has the same passion onstage, or is enjoying it in the same way he was 4 or 5 years ago. I think he needs to take a break, and now that he's apparently without a record deal again, maybe he'll do just that and put more time into that autobiography which he's been hinting about in interviews.

I don't defend the cretin who threw the bottle but he could easily have brushed that off and continued to perform for the people who had paid a significant sum to see him. He just comes across as a performer who looks for any excuse not to have to finish a show nowadays.

I think that's the crux of the matter. He's had similar in the past, both with The Smiths and solo, and it's indicative of his frame of mind whether he deals with it and gets on with the show, or whether he has a strop and walks off. He doesn't seem to be in his stride at the moment and so, something he might otherwise have brushed off on another night, he took more personally.

I think it's clear that he wasn't physically hurt, but his ego took a hit. I can understand why he walked off, but it's hard to condone it when you know that he's aware of the cost and effort everyone bar one **** has put into attending and supporting him there last night. But if I was in his shoes, who knows... you shouldn't have to put up with that kind of crap.

At least he hasn't cried to the union yet.

That's one helluva leap fella - I don't blame him for not continuing, he's on stage not in the public stocks. I do think he needs to get away from it though as he doesn't seem to be well at the moment.

I hope they caught the dickhead that threw it and gave him some back.

It's just the impression I get, nothing more. I'm no fan of the guy or The Smiths and have never seen him live, but all footage I see of him lately makes it look like a chore to him. Perhaps he has always been like that.

A similar thing happened when I saw The Smiths at Carlisle Market Hall - Moz went off after the first song because someone was spitting. It's true he shouldn't have to put up with that sort of thing but it would be much better to get the crowd to point out the offender and get them ejected rather than ruin the night of X thousand fans... let the mob rule!!! He's a silly (vegetarian) sausage.

So what happens in a case like that, do the audience get their money back? I would go nuts if I was there and didn't get my money back or a ticket for another night, especially if I'd been turning money into overpriced beer for the previous two hours.

Those guitars came off pretty quick, almost like the whole thing was staged.

Wow I was expecting him to be smacked in the face and knocked out by a big glass bottle the way he has been in the news, not a platic bloody bottle bouncing lightly off his head.
