The Official Photo-a-Day for July 2006 thread.

This being the longest day of the year I thought I'd start the interest going on this up and coming month long snap-a-thon.

The idea is simply to take and post a single photo a day, every day for the whole month of July, no exceptions*. Don't try and agonise over the small details, try and have some fun again with your camera, whether it's film, digital, point & shoot or DSLR. Try some stuff you haven't done before, street photography, shoot from the hip, etc (I'm trying not to sound like a Lomography advert).

*though if you miss a day, don't worry, just carry on the next

Obviously digital will give you an instant result for posting online, whereas with film you have to finish the whole roll, get the film processed, printed or scanned.. this could take days or a couple of weeks. Again don't agonise over post processing, that's not what this event is for.

It might be advisable to map out some idea for photographs in advance as inspiration may not present itself every day, or time/work/family constraints may prevent you from long treks out. I know I had a few days towards the end of the month that were short on ideas. July is a long month (you'll probably realise this by the 21st).

To keep a chronological log of photos I have an account with www.flickr.com (the basic account is free) and others use an online blog such as www.photoblogs.org to host their photos with accompanying comments. Otherwise, you can set up a free account with photobucket or even just post individual photos here using imageshack.

Last year we had eight people up for the challenge who came up with some cracking photos (and possibly a better insight into their cameras and photography). So, anyone else up for this?

Jon

Yep

Although there is one glaring inaccuracy in your intro.

Eh? July has a 21st. I meant by the 21st you would realise you still have 10 days to go.

Yes, you're probably right, that's why I suggest a bit o' preparation.

GJ may mean that you'll realise it sooner

I'm up for this - I reckon my challenge will be to do a good picture each day, rather than the usual rubbish.

A cautious yes from me. Like JC whether they'll be any good or not is another matter....

Another cautious yes here. Cautious, as I've not found the opportunity to photograph every week, nevermind every day.

Any ideas on what we're going to do.. obviously upload them to our flickr/gallery/thing but we going to have a thread a day and then we all post our photo from that day in the thread? Or if not too many people taking part a thread per person then post each photo each day?

GJ; Easy tiger!

Rob; What did you do to your camera?!

Last time we just had the one thread and everyone posted everything in that. No need for separate ones.

Perusing the Event Diary, I can strike at least 5 days off as "no imagination required"

Intermittantly auto focus wouldn't lock in, lcd would fade in and out, menu settings wouldn't change. Tried with different batteries & memory cards but still the same, so I assume its a software problem.

6 months old so send back to where I got it from, however they're not that responsive to emails, and have no idea when I'll get it back.

Thinking about biting the bullet and getting a dslr.

Can anyone tell me if this is a good price ....

Canon 350D
17-85mm IS
Battery Grip
Spare Battery
1GB card

Ł1069

Cheers

I'll give this a go, but I'm on holiday for a while in the middle of July and won't be able to post those pic-a-days until I get back. As for the others, there will probably be more than 1 day when I resort to a pic from my phone
