Transformers - TV episodes as Spankingly good as the Movie?

As header, got the film recently and it was as good as I'd remembered (ah, childhood memories intact, take that George Lucas' prequels! ).

Just wondering if the TV episodes were as good (and worth getting) or did the movie raise the bar for Transformers?

The Season One TV episodes are not a patch on the Movie in terms of animation and storyline. Some of the dialogue is cringe inducing bad and the animation is abit rough although the R1 set has been digitally restored. I don't think the R2 got the restored pic but I may be wrong. I would say worth buying purely for the nostalga value but I got mine and it burst a bubble for me and it will never seem as good as when I first saw it all those years ago.

I think the later seasons in terms of animation got better. Whether the storylines got any better I can't for the life of me remember.

Ok, thanks Alanok, I'll take your word for it (well you do have a Transformers sig so I'd be not to listen to you, right?!).

Think I'll just be content with the movie for the moment....

Alanok

Your right the R2 didnt get the restored picture.

I was gona pick up the box set but I might not bother now

I'm waiting for Beast Wars to come out only seen a few eps but seems pretty good. Also I have read story wise it's the best series (though the follow up beast machines was very poor)

Armada is starting to improve and I wont even discuss Robots in Disguise

Transformers The Movie is a thousand times better than any animated adventure based on a toy line has any right to be and is a small masterpiece in it's own right. The tv series is NOT, and is very very bad.

sorry, but the the movie is utter rubbish. Better animation, but the story is pathetic, as is the cringe inducing 80s rock.

I'm a fan of the tv series. Box set is worth Ł18 from Play. My nostalgia is from the Tv show on saturaday mornings, not the god awful movie.

I'm a bit of a transformers fan, (check the sig below, know where its from?) but i haven't gone for the tv series as I think they are considerably lower quality than the movie, which is an all time great! Though I think some of the later shows that were based on some of the marvel comic storylines where alright

The soundtrack was put to great use though by Dirk Diggler in Boogie Nights.

"You got the touch, you got the power", that song is ace!

Yeah the TV show is pretty poor compared to the film, I got the disc of eps that come after the movie and they are no where near as good in terms of animation or plot. Plus the voices aren't as good either.

Best Transformers stories are the Marvel comics especially the UK ones and the US ones written by Simon Furman. You can get most of them in recently republished graphic novel form from Titan. Well worth a read.

The later seasons of the Transformers didn't improve much. The animation improved a lot, but the continuity was almost non-existant. I've got "The Return of Optimus Prime" - the end of season 3, and there are a whole load of scenes repeated, characters the wrong colour...I suppose they'd got complacent by then though.

Oh and I think the movie has one of the best opening 40 minutes of any film - after
it get get a bit tedious and the end is very abrupt. Some of the songs weren't the best, but Vince DiCola's score was masterful - I've got almost all of it in mp3 form and regularly listen to it.

Thanks for all the replys...looks like Alanok was on the mark then!

Yes, ok, the movie was cheese laden and the story did have some notable influences (Rodimus prime/sword in the stone?) but I thought it was great none the less...very stylish for a cartoon, drawing from Manga influences...and what other kids cartoon has the cajones (sp?) to kill off the main character in the first ten minutes? (they also used a naughty word!)

The Movie was great, a few levels above the tv series, but the series was good in its own right.

The best episodes came in series 2, the first part of which has been released on R1. Roll on the R2 release, or availability from somewhere that isn't Amazon.

*It seems a few places are stocking it now, but still no sign of it at Movietyme or DVD Soon.

If you love the movie, avoid the R2 release like the plague. It has the 5.1 remix but no remastered picture so it looks *****. The American R1 has a gloriously remastered (4:3) picture, 5.1 audio, plus an interview with Vince DiCola and some storyboards. Don't get the R1 from Play (if they still do it) as you'll get the crappy bare-bones Canadian R1 instead of the lovely American disc.

Does anyone know anything about the R4 release scheduled for March? I'm still hopeing for the widescreen transfer, isolated audio, commentry and toy commercials originally planned by Maverick for the UK release. I'm sure I'll be disappointed again though.

The series is much, much better than the movie.
Well the first two seasons are anyway. Season 3 (post movie) is pretty awful.

Season 2 is the best.

I love transfomers - I got both the movie the first time is was released and season one when it was released - it brought back so many memories playing with the toys with friends I don't even see no more ....

I love the Dinobots and the Constructicon... as they used to kick butt....

Hopefully they will bring out season two... I be buying them all till season four - thats when it when pants or I grow up?

Try getting the head masters movie - from what I can remember it was quite good...
